How To Determine If You’re Diabetic With Type 2 Diabetes?

We all know people around us who suffer from diabetes. People often suffer from type 2 diabetes, but type 1 diabetes poses its own problems. The cells in the pancreas that are responsible to make insulin are destroyed restricting the production of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps cells to absorb glucose. In simple words, glucose gives you energy and without it you will struggle to perform even the simplest of tasks. When the glucose is produced more than needed your body stores it in the form of glycogen commonly known as blood sugar. This blood sugar is then broken down and released when you need energy in-between meal intervals, during exercise, or while you sleep. Because of the lack of insulin, your body is unable to break down any glucose while you suffer from type 1 diabetes. Due to this, glucose from the food can't be absorbed completely which leaves a higher amount of glucose circulating in your blood. Thus, leading to high blood sugar problems. But what causes diabetes? Are there any triggers we should look out for? Here are the type 1 diabetes causes ...

The actual trigger or cause of type 1 diabetes is still unknown. Although, it's believed to be an autoimmune disease. In other words, your immune system mistakes your beta cells in the pancreas as harmful and attacks them. These cells are responsible to produce insulin, thus making a shortage of it in the body. At times, genetic and environmental factors also play a role. But how do you actually know if you have diabetes? What signs and symptoms you should look out for?
Here are the symptoms of type 1 diabetes:
• Excessive hunger
• Excessive thirst
• Blurred vision
• Fatigue
• Frequent urination
• Weight loss in a short period of time
Other additional symptoms may also include:
• Rapid breathing
• Dry skin and mouth
• Flushed face
• Nausea
• Vomiting or stomach pain
The additional symptoms are usually a sign of Ketoacidosis, a different medical condition triggered due to diabetes. Please consult your doctor if you're suffering from any type 1 diabetes symptoms.
Diagnosis of type 1 diabetes
The type of diabetes can be determined by several tests. While some can be undertaken quickly, others require preparation or monitoring. It's most likely you have type 1 diabetes if you meet the following criteria:
• Fasting blood sugar > 126 mg/dL on two separate tests
• Random blood sugar > 200 mg/dL, along with symptoms of diabetes
• Hemoglobin A1c > 6.5 on two separate tests
These criteria can be used to diagnose type 2 diabetes as well. Another test that is very common to detect diabetes is a fasting plasma glucose test. For a fasting blood glucose test, you're asked to refrain from eating or drinking for up to eight hours before the test. It's best to schedule a fasting glucose test first thing in the morning so you don’t have to fast during the day. Fasting tests are more common because they provide more accurate and efficient results compared to the other tests.
If you have any of the symptoms of diabetes, your doctor will likely order tests that suit you best. Don't take any step before asking your doctor. Work out a plan with your doctor for better diabetes management.
