Why Lab Grown Diamonds Are Considered Eco-friendly?

The popularity of mined diamonds has been on a decline in recent years and statistics vouch for the fact. That’s because mined diamonds have a negative impact on the environment. People want to make the right buying decisions. A recent Unilever study suggests that about a third i.e. 33 percent of consumers are buying goods from brands that are environment conscious. The study also revealed that about 53 percent of shopping enthusiasts in the UK and about 78 percent in US said that they feel better by purchasing eco-friendly products. Heedless mining has already caused a lot of damage to other environment. Some of the visible repercussions are deforestation, increased carbon emission, air pollution, water pollution and land erosion.
Lab grown diamond companies say that the lab grown diamonds are considered eco-friendly and below are the reasons why-
No destruction to the earth
Unlike natural diamonds, lab-created diamonds are not mined from the earth. They are man-made diamonds which are created in laboratories by CVD diamond companies under controlled conditions. ...
... These diamonds are also referred to as synthetic diamonds. These technologically created diamonds do not cause any damage to the earth because they are ethically created. Mined or natural diamonds on the other hand cause immense damage to our environment. You can easily imagine that about 1750 tones of earth has to be dug in order to extract 1 ct. diamond.
Not many diamond companies fill back the mined area because of the lack of regulations. As a consequence, excessive waste of land, soil and rock happens. Besides, large scale excavations and drastic modification of coastal areas must not be forgotten.
Lab grown diamond companies follow strict regulations while producing man-made diamonds and hence it is a responsible way of creating diamonds.
No air or water pollution
Another bad and visible effect of diamond mining is air and water pollution. During the mining process chemicals from the earth release which cause air and water pollution. That’s because when these chemicals gets mixed with water bodies, water gets contaminated. A huge amount of electricity and hydrocarbons energy is used during the mining process which causes carbon emissions and greenhouse gases. CVD diamond companies say that’s the reason why man-made diamonds have gained so much popularity over the years. They do not cause any sort of air or water pollution. The energy use and greenhouse emission is next to zero in the process followed for synthetic diamonds.
Little energy used during the process
Lab-created diamonds are made by placing seeds into carbon rich growing chambers. Heat and pressure are used in the process and it is done in the most environment friendly manner. Electricity used for the process originates from renewable sources. Besides, water, chemicals and harmful substances are not used for creating synthetic diamonds.
