India was ruled by Britishers for about 200 years and they have given us cultural and architectural heritage to a large extent. The architectures made by them are of great importance. They add to the beauty of our country. These buildings are being converted into hotels. This is the new trend. There are many such hotels all over India. Some of the Colonial Hotels in India are as follows:-

Hotel Windamere is one such hotel in Darjeeling in West Bengal, India. This hotel is situated in the heart of the town. It was originally a 19th Century boarding house for the British & Scottish tea planters. It was changed into a hotel in 1939, just before the Second World War. Windamere is a WelcomeHeritage hotel and is situated on the Observatory Hill where Darjeeling starts and overlooks the Chowrasta and gives excellent view of the surrounding mountains including the Kanchenjunga range. It takes about 2.5 hours to reach the hotel by car from Bagdogra, the nearest airport to Darjeeling. The hotel has two wings- the Windamere which is furnished in traditional colonial style and Little Windamere on the other hand has all the modern ...
... facilities and decor. It is probably the most expensive hotel in the region. Another interesting feature of this hotel is that there are no televisions in the rooms of the old wing and phone facility is also available on request.
