(ARA) - Relocating to a new home, whether it's a classic bungalow, an urban walk-up or even a new college dorm, is an exciting adventure. Moving day can also prove to be frustrating, with obstacles like narrow hallways, sharp turns or multiple flights of stairs that make maneuvering large or bulky furniture into a new residence difficult or even impossible.

One-third (34 percent) of Americans have had difficulty getting a new mattress through a doorway, up a stairway or into a small space, according to Select Comfort's Sleeping Habits survey. The same study found that 27 percent of respondents would prefer to sleep on a wider mattress. The desire for a wider mattress can often conflict with the constraints of moving. The Sleep Number bed, which can be transported in four easy-to-carry boxes, eliminates common moving-day hassles and allows people to transport a queen- or king-sized mattress through tight spaces.

The Sleep Number bed is different from a traditional innerspring mattress because its revolutionary, dual air-chamber technology allows for easy lifting and packing. In fact, both the Sleep Number ...
... mattress and its unique foundation can be fully disassembled and repacked into their original shipping boxes, reducing the size of the bed by nearly three-quarters. No longer will movers have to cut a box spring in half to fit in a narrow stairwell for a second-floor bedroom. And with Select Comfort's new frameless technology, which features specially designed foundation legs, the need for an awkward traditional bed frame is eliminated.

When moving day comes, the Sleep Number boxes can conveniently be packed in a truck or SUV or shipped directly to the new residence.

Easy Assembly and a Better Night's Sleep

The Sleep Number bed requires no tools and is simple to assemble -- one person can set up the bed in less than one hour. The Sleep Number bed foundation, used instead of a traditional box spring, utilizes polymer panels that interlock to create maximum support. The mattress is assembled by positioning two air chambers and high-density foam perimeters and comfort pads within a zippered Belgian Damask coverlet.

The two air chambers of the mattress are adjustable, via a hand-held remote control, and allow for each individual to find their Sleep Number and to choose the ideal firmness of their side of the mattress, without affecting their partner's choice. A Sleep Number is a number between zero and 100 that represents each person's ideal combination of mattress comfort, firmness and support on a Sleep Number bed. The Sleep Number bed is available in all standard mattress sizes, including Twin, Twin extra-long, Full, Queen, Eastern King and California King. Specialty-size beds are also available in Expanded Queen and Grand King models.

The Sleep Number bed is clinically proven to relieve back pain and improve sleep quality. In a study conducted at the Stanford University Medical Sleep Disorders Center, researchers found that 87 percent of those who slept on a Sleep Number bed experienced a greater percentage of REM sleep, with fewer sleep disturbances.

Select Comfort's products are sold through its more than 330 retail stores located nationwide, including leased departments in Bed Bath & Beyond stores; through selected bedding retailers; through its national direct marketing operations at (800) 535-BEDS; and on the Internet at www.selectcomfort.com.
