Scientists have discovered a new species of octopus in the depths of the ocean and are named Dumbo octopus. They have acknowledged the octopus as the most profound living cephalopod known.

Named after Disney’s Dumbo for its big, lateral ear-like fins, Dumbo octopuses live at the farthest point of the ocean around the world, which is up to 13,000 feet below the sea level. They feed on fish, marine mammals like sharks and dolphins, snails, worms, and other creatures living on the ocean floor.

The discovery report published in the journal Marine Biology Tuesday — -states that there’s still so much to learn about these creatures and their home deep down in the oceans.
Researches have successfully captured high-quality images of these rarely found, cute looking octopuses, zooming the surrounding. The average size of dumbos is 8 inches to 12 inches in length, while the largest known dumbo grew up to 5 feet and 10 inches, weighing 13lbs.
But dumbo octopuses have specific behaviour allowing them to successfully reproduce anytime upon mating and the ability to live in frigid temperatures as sunlight doesn’t ...
... reach the bottom surface of the ocean.

Dr. Alan Jamieson, the scientist who identified the octopus, shared,” The laws of marine ecology and marine biology are much the same. And we need the Dumbo octopus out there to blur that line between the depths we think we care about and the depths we don’t. This idea that only animals in a kind Victorian freak show live at the bottom isn’t right.”

As scientists explore the most in-depth sector of the Earth’s five largest oceans, they hoped that the findings could help to eradicate the myths about the dark waters and the creatures living there.
