To help you out in quality used car engines, here is a list of the important aspects for a good quality used engine.
Source of the engine
While a used engine is considerably less expensive when compared with a brand new one, still it won’t be cheap. If you have decided to buy an old car engine, then it is important to make your time in researching and ensuring that you are buying a good one for your vehicle.
You can use engines from both brick-and-mortar auto parts retailers and through online sellers specializing in used parts. It doesn’t matter from where you make the buy, it is important to ask the necessary questions and have clear understanding on their parts and quality ...
... control measures.
Check the mileage
Though promised with the words of the seller that you are provided with low mileage engines, unless you authenticate the mileage of the engine by yourself don’t make the decision to buy. Get the VIN number of the vehicle and run mileage verification. After receiving the report, you can choose the right part.

If the seller or salvage yard couldn’t provide such records, it is better to purchase somewhere else.
Check for leaks and do visual inspection
A major point to watch out for when you buy used engines is leakage. Check for any leakage in the engine and check if there are any noticeable damage signs on the engine, such as cracks.
Ensure that all the main engine components such as the alternator, power steering pump, starter and AC compressor are accounted for, before you buy the engine. If there are any rubber parts, it is recommended to replace them before making the final payment. Since these parts have a shelf life period, it will begin to degrade after that. This will eliminate the chances of buying a bad quality engine and leave you with peace of mind.
How old the engine part is
An important deciding factor when buying any used part in “used” condition, is the age of it. This should be your primary question with the seller when you are about to make the purchase. In some cases, the price may be a bit high for an older part. Hence you should make comparisons with other sellers or auto recyclers in the market and decide who is best in offering the deals.
Remember that the older the engine is, the higher the chances of something can go shortly. Of course, you are not going to purchase the engine for a shorter period of use; you need the part to last at least for a few years to really pay off for the money spent.
Check with the warranty
Although you buy an engine that is used, still you should ask for a warranty. Most of the reputable sellers offer warranties, however we recommend that you always insist on getting a warranty for the part you buy and read the terms and conditions thoroughly to ensure a quality buy. If in case you get stuck with an engine which doesn’t work properly, returning it will not be a problem.
Finding a quality used engine
BE ready with the VIN number of your engine, engine code, and production date to ensure buying the right part that fits. Choose an engine that doesn’t need to have replaced too many parts. Obtain the history of the engine and ensure the engine has not been damaged due to an accident. In addition, verify the engine’s compression and oil pressure as well.
Most importantly verify the trustworthiness of the suppliers. You can see plenty of websites online. Check for their customer reviews. Get a printed copy of warranty with your purchase. With a little groundwork you can find a quality used engine, and make your car’s life longer!
