Organic Soil Association

Founded in 1946 Organic Soil Association mission is to research, develop and promote sustainable relationships bet Organic Soil Association on the soil, plants, animals, people and the biosphere, in order to produce healthy food and other products while protecting and enhancing the environment.

There are two parts to Organic Soil Association organization:

Organic Soil Association is ‘solutions’ based and bring consumers, producers and all other parts of the organic movement together in one organization. Organic Soil Association structure reflects the holistic principle at the heart of organic production.

Organic Soil Association main activities include:

• Educational campaigns reaching out to consumers, farmers and the food industry, opinion formers and policy makers.
• Policy research into targeted areas of agriculture and the links with health, environment and animal Organic Soil Association fare.
• Promoting local food and community supported agriculture.
• Representing organic farmers and serving their needs through conferences and demonstration farms.
• Setting standards for organic production and processing.
• Certification to these standards (through SA Certification).

Organic Beauty and Cosmetic Certificate Standards by Soil Association.

Organic Skin care standards cover health and beauty products that are made from organic ingredients, including:

• herbal products
• natural and herbal medicine-like products
• toiletries
• body care products, and
• cosmetics and perfumery.

• foaming products
• blended oils
• emulsified products
• pastes
• salves
• gels
• toilet soaps
• aqueous products, and
• fragrances

These standards define the criteria, treatments and practices of organic health and beauty products. They cover:

• processing of the raw materials
• manufacture
• labelling, and
• composition

Organic health and beauty products should:

• be fit for their purpose
• have as high as possible proportion of organic ingredients
• be clearly identified, traceable and separate from non-organic products at
all stages of manufacturing
• Not be tested on animals
• Not be harmful to human health and the environment in manufacture and use
• be produced in line with our ethical trade standards and
• be labeled to give clear and accurate information to the consumer.
