Deciding on HVAC Units and HVAC System Design

Choose an HVAC Unit with Central Air Handlers
Whenever possible pick an HVAC Unit with central air handlers that serve multiple rooms instead of individual heat pumps or unit ventilators. There are a number of advantages to an HVAC system design with central air handlers including:
* Fewer components to maintain
* Easier access to HVAC unit means easier maintenance and repair
* Compatibility with high efficiency air filters
* Stronger construction
* More reliable outdoor air flow
* Noise reduction
* Reduced draft because of additional air supplies
* Improved humidity control

HVAC system design not only affects air comfort levels for your occupants but the level of indoor air quality as well. That’s why good HVAC system design will increase the amount fresh outdoor air flowing into your building. Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) systems are available that can precondition outdoor air entering your building through the ventilation system and then transfer energy between the ventilation air flow and the exhaust air flow. Ask your HVAC management team about installing an ERV system in your building. ERV systems are especially cost effective in hot and humid climates like South Florida.
