Bridging Nation’s Skill Gap Through Standard Chartered Career Academies

India currently has a severe shortage of skilled and trained workers. It is estimated that only 2.3 % of the working population in India has undergone proper or certified skillset training as compared to significantly higher numbers in the rest of the world.

In pursuance of its CSR Initiatives, Standard Chartered, in collaboration with their NGO Partner - Udyogini and Implementing partner - EduBridge Learning, is setting up Career Development Academies in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Aurangabad, Lucknow, Kolkata, Jaipur and Indore to address this gap and contribute towards bridging it. The program is designed to train 4500 students through Standard Chartered Career Academies and College Outreach programs. The program is envisaged to be focussed on Women.

The Academies will offer technology-driven, interactive, short-term, employment-linked, BFSI sector training as well as help enhance the student's Personality through Soft skills and Life Skills sessions. Some of the popular job roles that are being targeted are Microfinance Executive, Business Correspondent/ Business Facilitator (BCBF), Loan Approval ...
... Officer, Accounts Executive, and Front Desk Officer. At the end of the course, successful candidates will be presented with a joint certificate recognised by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Standard Chartered, Udyogini, and EduBridge Learning. EduBridge will leverage the 500+ recruiters’ network to place these candidates PAN India.

The Post-Placement Engagement Team will ensure that all the placed candidates are handheld for at least 6 months after they are placed, to ensure a smooth transition to the corporate job environment. Counselling will be offered through our technology-driven career counselling platform Sahicareer.com.

Beneficiaries that are gainfully employed with leading recruiters in the industry with salaries between 1.2 – 1.8L per annum (much above minimum wages), will witness more than 50-100% increase in the household income. Sustainable Careers with leading recruiters in the industry will truly transform the lives of the beneficiaries. Over and above impacting the lives of the youth of the country, this intervention will contribute to addressing the skill gap at the entry-level by providing well-trained workforce to corporates who are in need of skilled manpower.

This Program will focus on overall Career Development of all the candidates whether placed on jobs or made employable through training for a sector and for life in general. The impact of the intervention will be visible through the enhanced employability quotient and aspiration quotient of beneficiaries.

Through this program, Standard Chartered and EduBridge, together will be able to influence the entire Career Planning Process of the youth, making the program holistic in its approach. From counselling the candidates, to training them, to getting them jobs and helping them settle in their new job environment, this program covers all aspects of Career Development ensuring great outcomes and a truly impactful Livelihoods program.
