Set in the stunning landscape of Devon and Somerset, Exmoor offers the best of both counties with a stunning coastline, open moor and ancient woodlands. The scenery is amazing as well as fascinating; the jagged cliffs take you around the epic coastline with breathtaking views out to Wales. The moors and coast are a ramblers dream offering countless routes around them. The landscape changes dramatically with the seasons, winter is cold on the moors coupled with a moody presence, spring brings back the light as the bluebells, foxgloves and other wild flowers grace the passers by. Summer is delightful as numerous songbirds and birds of prey frequent the sky with carpets of heather down below, it comes back full circle to autumn where the stunning sunsets arrive and the national parks wild residents call it a day for the winter months.

The walking routes of Exmoor are a junction for other amazing walks in the south west, following the Minehead coast takes you further into Somerset whilst the other direction along the coast to Lynton and Lynmouth takes you along to the stunning golden sand beaches of North Devon. By going down into the park you are able to join up to paths that lead to the South Devon national park Dartmoor as well as good links to the Tarka trail a celebrated walking/ cycling route that explores the wonderful nature and countryside of Devon.

Now well into spring, Exmoor expresses herself into what we call locally "Translucent Green" an abundance of new foliage from the mass of Beach hedges and tree's that adorn Exmoor, to the new born Lamb's as we come to the end of the Lambing season here on Exmoor, or the first sightings of the new born Exmoor Pony foals, is just a reminder what a wonderful time spring is to visit Exmoor

The peculiar Tarr steps set in ancient woodland classified as a site of special scientific interest for its unique ecology and outstanding trees. The moors have an array of cosy places to put your feet up for the evening next to a fire such as the Exmoor White Horse Inn which is renowned for its location in Exford next to the beautiful River Exe in the heart of Exmoor. Its welcoming atmosphere and old log burning fire is sure to warm you up after a long days walking.

Exmoor has an annual walking festival to celebrate the areas amazing views and talking even the veteran Exmoor walkers on a new path around the park. Some of festivals walks are quite free as people from all over join together and enjoy the stunning views. Other walks are led by active Exmoor guides with walks specialising in photography, wildlife and the history of the area and many more. The festival has had such a good response that it now runs a spring and autumn gathering, the dates for spring are the 29th of April- 7th May and the autumn the 1st-4th of October. It is advised to book your place early as many of the specialist guided walks soon fill up.

Remember to look out for the parks most famous resident the Exmoor Pony as well as the herds of stunning Red Deer. It is a great idea to pack some binoculars, a pair of stout boots, and a good map and a smile for an amazing day out on Exmoor.
