Having a home office is very essential, particularly for those who work from home. If you have never created a home office before then you need to learn how to do it properly. Being a part of your home, it must be set up efficiently to suit your needs. Otherwise, your productivity will suffer and your life will become disorganized and chaotic. In this post, I have clearly outlined some tips to help you design an office that is relaxing, comfortable and yet professional. So let’s get started

1. Choose an ideal location

The first step in designing your home office is to find the right place in your home that is conducive to work. It could be a guest bedroom, an unused living room or a part of your dry basement. If you need just a smaller space, you can use a movable partition to help create space. If this isn't feasible, the most essential thing is that you get a space that is dedicated to your home office. It must be spacious enough to contain your office furniture and equipment. In your choosing, you have to consider the privacy of your family and the perfect place to give your clients the best services.

2. ...
... The right lighting makes a huge difference

Remember it is going to be an office and you may spend a lot of time there, so make sure it is well lit. Lighting that is flickering or too dim can give you headaches or affect your eyes. Use lighting you can read by and that does not tire your eyes. You can use fluorescent lights to brighten the workspace completely. A related design tip is to use light colors on the wall to relax your eyes and your mind. You can even get several home lighting ideas, which are equally applicable to home offices. Overall, you must consider the ideal lighting so you can work well in your business.

3. Maintain that homely feel that makes your home a home

Your home office does not have to appear as a generic office, so make sure it fits in with the ambiance of your home. You can use the sofa and bright, arty walls. Instead of plastic trays, you can use baskets or a wardrobe for storage. You can also mount the top of the shelves with beautiful pieces of sculptures and art to create a soft ambiance in the room.

4. Choose the right Office furniture

The use of furniture is essential in your home office. Your clients will need a seat and you will also need the right place to keep your items. When deciding on the chairs and tables to use in your home office, I will recommend you go for worktables or desks. They come with large storage spaces for your papers and files. Your choice of a chair must also be comfortable with the right height and should not strain your back. If you spend hours at the computer, you can opt for ergonomically designed chairs and tables with the perfect height so you do not strain your fingers, neck, and back when typing on the keyboard.

5. Office layout

It is unreasonable to be working in an office without knowing what is behind you. The way your home office is arranged matters a lot, so make sure you always face the door so you can see who is entering. Likewise, you can be easily distracted if your furniture and other equipment in your home office are wrongly placed. Make sure they are positioned such that you will not get glare from the window bouncing onto your computer screen or they hinder the free flow of movement.

6. Wall colors

To enhance your office look, you can paint the wall with the right color. When it comes to wall colors, I will suggest you go for light shaded ones. These colors will help the lighting to be scattered over the entire area. If you can give the best color to your home office, it can certainly inspire you and others in the room to increase their creativity.

7. Decorate your home office

Since you will be spending more time in your office, it is vital you decorate it with aesthetics that may appeal to you and improve your work performance. Personalize your office space using images that inspire you and unique decorative items. You can choose a pen stand, pencils, and other items to match the walls and curtains. However, ensure you keep it to a minimum to lessen distractions when at work.

8. Be organized

How do you use your home office? What do you want to file? How do you file it? Having an organized workspace is essential to the design of your home office. Starting with your desk, the way you arrange it speaks a lot about you. If you put too many items on your desk, it can become cluttered and discouraging. However, a great idea would be to use the walls to your advantage. Place a pinboard, blackboard or whiteboard on your wall to tuck reminders and notes. Another way of getting papers off your desk is to include wall-mounted in-trays and filing drawers under your desk so your paperwork is kept away from your work area.

9. Internet connection

There is no way you will not need an internet connection in your office. Therefore, you need to install high-speed broadband to get you connected with the rest of the world. In addition to an internet connection, you will need a router so you can connect your PC with others. For an effective connection, it is essential you choose a wireless laptop to simplify your movement.

10. Choose the right office equipment

Set up your workspace with all the equipment and tools you will need to launch your home-based work. Equipment such as storage boxes, filing cabinets is important for a more organized and efficient workplace.

Final thought

There is no reason to hold yourself back when preparing for your new office. However, make sure you strike a balance between practicality and domesticity, combined with a sleek style, and you will find yourself in an office away from the office, where work seems a breeze.
