Treatment For Epstein Barr Syndrome
Epstein Barr Syndrome is caused by the Epstein Barr virus (EBV) - the same virus that is liable for glandular fever or mononucleosis.
Epstein Barr Syndrome is transmitted by direct contact with virus-infected saliva, mostly through kissing, though it can be picked up from eating utensils, sharing drinks, and lipsticks, etc., or through blood transfusions. The disease is most common in youngsters. The majority of people have had it by age 40. Children can pick it up, and in these cases, it can be passed off as the flu or cold virus. When EBV arises in patients over 40, the symptoms can be prolonged or more enervating.
General EBV symptoms comprise a sore throat, tiredness, swollen glands, and fever. There may be other symptoms like body aches, headache, poor appetite, cough, runny nose, sensitivity to light, loose stools, and enlargement of the spleen and liver. Complications of the EBV syndrome are rare but can comprise pericarditis, rupture of the spleen, anemia, hepatitis, a decrease in blood platelets, nerve damage, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and pneumonia.
Symptoms generally appear 30-50 days after contact ...
... with the virus, although in some cases the symptoms can take months to visible. In some cases, the syndrome is self-limiting, lasting only two weeks. But in some people the disease can become chronic, lasting for months or years.
Epstein Barr Syndrome is diagnosed according to antibody blood tests, white blood cell levels plus symptoms, a person's age, and a physical examination.
The traditional medical treatment is rest and fluids. Painkillers may be recommended if there is a lot of interruption or discomfort of sleep patterns. In severe cases, corticosteroids may be recommended if there is severe inflammation or compromised breathing.
Natural treatments for Epstein Barr Syndrome contain high dose nutrients like vitamin C, selenium, zinc, the B complex, and magnesium. Herbs like oregano, Echinacea, astragalus, and olive leaf extract are commonly used to support the lymphatic and immune system. If the spleen and liver are affected then the herbs red root and milk thistle are conventionally used.
In chronic Epstein Barr Syndrome, treatment requires to focus on removing the virus from the lymphatic system and liver. This method requires the combination of a liver cleanser or tonic with a pure diet and plenty of fluids to flush the toxins and viruses away from the body. In chronic Epstein Barr Syndrome, the adrenals are often tired and need to be revitalized and nurtured through correct nutrition, stress management, plenty of rest and graded exercise.
