We often tend to notice what resides in front of us. When the color of kitchen surface look intact, we tend to ignore nooks and corners. One such place is fan blades on the ceiling. It stays out of the sight till we do not make an effort to climb up and have a look or once it starts throwing off grease gunk everywhere each time we switch it on. One may get tempted to ignore it, but cleaning it is the best option to bring peace of mind and prevent the grease from soiling the wall paints. Here is how one can get rid of it in Nepal.
Where to start?
• Getting together everything needed to clean up.
• Bringing newspapers and laying it under the fan so that grease does not fall on the floor
• Taping fan’s switch up so kids cannot turn it on by mistake while one is cleaning.
• While working with a step ladder, keeping extra rags, paper towel, and cleaners to avoid extra work
• Wearing eye protection and headscarf to save oneself from dust and grime falling in the eyes and head
Say goodbye to grease
Grease, being of sticky nature, dust is likely to stick over it. So, the ...
... first step would be to wipe the blade up with clean, soft cloths or dry paper. It gets rid of loose dust. Next, with damp clothes to get rid of more. The process should be repeated on all the places – top, bottom, and edges. Removing these loose particles reduces the grease level and helps to get rid of it easily than just smearing around.
The next step would be to apply a household cleaner made to cut grease. Instead of applying it directly on the blades, pour it in damp sponge or a clean cloth and wipe up the blades. Then, it should be left to dry and ensure it is clean by touching and continue until it is.
After the ceiling fan is clean, the grease over walls should be cleaned up as well and rejuvenated with wall colors. With thousands of options available, the painting in Nepal has become even more vast.
Prevention is better than cure
After finishing the cleanups, one might realize prevention is better. So, to keep the fan blades grease-free and prevent the grease from resettling, one should clean it up with a degreaser from time to time. Also, it should be cleaned every week or two and every time after cooking greasy food to keep the grease from settling again.
