5 Stress Management Techniques To Try At Home

Here are some stress management techniques to take the edge off.
Find a hobby-
Studies have shown that engaging in a leisure activity for just 20 minutes in a week significantly lowers blood pressure and zaps stress. Activities such as cooking, sports or even knitting have a psychological effect on us and soothes our minds. In fact, having a hobby also helps us focus more on our actual work and gives us a chance to stimulate the parts of the brain we keep dormant during the work week.
Jam out to some classic tunes-
Studies show that listening to calm and relaxing music reduces cortisol. Cortisol is what is responsible for the buildup of stress in the brain. Remember, however, to listen to music that is calm. Classical music such as symphonies from Bach and Mozart are excellent choices. But if that’s not your cup of tea, try listening to sounds of the ocean, rain or any other soothing nature sounds.

Make time to meditate-
You don’t need a fancy guru or a class to help you meditate. Just pick a comfortable position, keep your back straight, breathe in and breathe out. The goal of meditation is to keep your mind clear of the thoughts that keep barging every second or so. If you can’t close your eyes, try staring at a wall or something at a distance. You can even light a candle and gaze at the flame. Just make sure it’s not too close to you. Doing this for just 10 minutes a day will work wonders in battling stress.
Cultivating stress management skills is not the easiest thing. But with some time and effort initially, you will naturally inculcate these habits. Do give them a try, and if you’re still feeling stressed and are unable to cope with it, visit a medical professional to help you out.
