Since you came from a known source, the hiring manager might give you a better hearing or will, genuinely, tell you what you need to build upon to get the job! He or she could be your best qualified career guide.

Third Level Network: This is the buddy's buddy's buddy. You would need a double introduction here. But you still come from a known source.

Moreover, as and when you add more people, your network increases by a large number. A person with 300 connections, which is pretty common on LinkedIn, is connected to at least 10000 people.
