In many parts of America, birds wake people with songs. Most famous for these are the black-capped chickadees and red-breasted nuthatches. To the ears of the average person, these birds are just creating music. For the experts, the birds are actually communicating. They are making a statement in the shortest number of sounds possible. It’s like Twitter: you say a lot in just 280 characters.

According to a report from the National Geographic, the chickadees have a vocabulary of around 50 words based on the distinct sounds they make. Erick Greene, a professor from the University of Montana, noted a few of the phrases that the chickadees communicate to its peers: “feed me”, “Danger!”, and “I’m single.”

The nuthatches, on the other hand, will hear these statements and share them with their neighbors. In essence, the nuthatches retweet the chickadees. This is important because it could mean life and death for these birds. If they are able to communicate that there is danger, they can also warn their neighbors through their natural propensity to “retweet.”

“I’m single”

The chickadees ...
... are also adept at being straightforward about their dating life. “I’m single!” they would chirp. The chickadees are very vocal, whether they are communicating or singing. In fact, they got its name from the most familiar sound they make: chick-a-dee-dee-dee. According to studies, chickadees often have singing contests among the males in order to determine who amongst them will get to mate.

The male nuthatch, on the other hand, prefers to court a female with movements: a lift of the head and the tail while turning his back on the female, drops his wings, and then sways from side to side. The best thing about nuthatches is that they are monogamous by nature.

Other birds have very interesting mating rituals. Check out the top five most interesting bird courtships.

Blue Manakin

For the blue manakin, it takes teamwork to get the girls. These little birds line up on a perch and perform an elaborate song-and-dance performance to attract the ladies. The dance is mesmerizing. Mother Earth really has a lot of beautiful things to offer. The company Blue Manakin aims to make the public see the beauty in the world. This is why the company is focused on promoting its environmental causes through its products: T-shirts.

The T-shirts from Blue Manakin all carry the message that we should take care of our world, as there are so many great things left to be discovered. Not a lot of people know what a blue manakin is, and if the earth will perish due to climate change, they will never know the bird’s natural beauty.

The company has three major causes, all of which lead to the main message of environmental protection. The major causes are climate change, animal trafficking, and habitat destruction. Various designs of the T-shirts talk about each of the causes. There are T-shirts for men, women, and children. It is important to educate children about the effects of climate change while they are young.

It may not seem like much when a child wears a statement T-shirt about protecting the environment. But it is actually a great way to educate them, especially when a shirt design shows a gorilla with the words: Give me room to breathe. As parents, you should explain to the children why the gorilla is asking for room to breathe. It is because this endangered animal is losing its home because of deforestation.

Even better, 10% of the profit from the Blue Manakin products will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund.
