What is Commercial Interior Design?

Commercial design is often described as a challenging and complex process for the construction and administration of business space or for renovations, often referred to as a contract or non-residential interior design.

Although some people use the term commercial interchangeably with the term "office" interior design. However, the work encompasses a way larger variety than the office spaces. The commercial design projects also involve the planning and specification of public spaces, like hotels, restaurants, and similar buildings beyond the "office" space.
In other words, designing commercial design involves designing the interior of any business-serving facility.

It usually demands a big amount of attention to detail and it involves far more than just the decoration of the interior of the spaces. The design projects address much wider issues including:

• Design and maximization of space,

• Eco-friendly build and renovation,

• Ceiling and lighting options,

• Power and plumbing systems,

• And even commissioning data and voice communications systems to satisfy demand.

This work requires the experts to own a good grasp of architecture, also as an artistic sense for creating attractive settings within the space.

In today's extremely commercialized world, we take a lot of things for granted. Compare today's TV advertising to that of fifty years ago. Think of the present visual merchandising with the visual merchandising in the early 20th Century.

Always remember, whether it is a house or an office you've got decided to build, you're always working within the context of it’s' architecture. Both the interior design and the architecture will work as a "hand-and-glove" scenario together. This analogy relates to the fit, feel, and appropriateness of the interior design about the architecture. During this relationship, the architecture exists to contain or house the interior. The interior is that the hand and the architecture is the glove. And it is the hand that animates the glove, making it come alive.

How about commercial interior design? As you think that cast your mind over the evolution of the commercial public spaces, you'll realize the big amount of change it's gone through. In the following section, I will be able to take you through a quick history of commercial interior design.
