In order to become a physician assistant (PA), it is compulsory for everyone to complete an accredited PA program. In United States, there are around 142 programs offered by the nationally recognized schools. It is not hard for you to look for a program which suits you most if you understand the programs well. Here are 4 main things you should know:
· The majority of PA programs enable the students to obtain the award of master degree in Physician Assistant Studies, Health Science or Medical Science. Some schools even offer a clinical doctorate degree to the students.
· The duration taken for training is usually 2-3 years. It consists of classroom and laboratory instruction in medical and behavioral sciences, such as microbiology, anatomy, pharmacology, clinical medicine, physical diagnosis, pathology, etc. The students are not required to complete the residency after they graduate.
· There are similar programs offered by different states. You have the freedom to choose either the in-state program or out-of-state program. In order to save the traveling cost, it would be ideal for you to choose ...
... the school which is nearest to your house.
· In general, different schools have different requirements for entrance. The schools usually evaluate the applicants through Grade Point Average, Graduate Record Exam, Medical College Admission Test or the number of hours of patient-care experience. Hence, you need to make sure that you have fulfilled the basic requirements before you submit your application.
In order to make a better choice, you are advised to consult the counselors of some schools to find out the details of their programs. They usually advise you based on the pros and cons of each program. You should only make your decision after you have got all the information on hand.
