In Ayurveda paralysis is called Pakhaghata and refers to the loss of movement or sensation or both in any one part of the whole body. Ayurveda can completely cure some forms of paralysis and in others can help the patient lead as independent a life as possible.

Ayurveda is a holistic science and takes into consideration the entire being instead of treating parts of the body separately. As you may know, according to Ayurveda any ailment in the body occurs due to imbalance in the three main Doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Here it needs mentioning that paralysis is caused by the aggravation of the Vata dosha. This is the reason that paralysis treatment in Ayurveda focuses on balancing the Vata dosha.

Know the Causes of Paralysis

The basic cause of paralysis is a nerve malfunctioning in the brain or the spinal cord. Mainly this disease is caused due to any injury to the spinal cord or brain stroke. However sometimes, infections, environmental toxins, a brain disorder or some other ailments can result in partial paralysis. Now, ...
... here are the common causes of paralysis for a better understanding of the disease.

Infectious or autoimmune disease like spondylitis, HIV, Guillain-Barre syndrome, and Lyme disease can cause paralysis.
It is also caused due to neurological disorders like cerebral palsy, Bell’s palsy, peripheral neuropathy, and multiple sclerosis.
Serious and sometimes life-threatening conditions like trauma to the brain or spinal cord, brain tumor, stroke or hemorrhage.
Trauma like a herniated disk of the vertebrae, breaking or severing of the spinal cord, or direct trauma to a nerve.
Radiation, poisons, and toxins which are the environmental factors which sometimes lead to paralysis.

Ayurvedic Treatment of Paralysis

In paralysis ayurvedic treatment is the best option because as mentioned it is a holistic system of medicine. Apart from balancing the Vata dosha, Ayurveda also focuses on normalizing the flow of Prana Vayu which is the essential life force running the body. For the balancing of the three main doshas, panchakarma therapy is used and the following treatments are used for normalizing the flow of the Prana Vayu.

Abhyangam – This is a specialized massage therapy applied to the entire body using medicated oils
Padabhyanga – this is a therapy which relaxes the muscles and ligaments in the lower limbs
Snehavasti – This is a herbal enema which corrects the balance of the Vata dosha and removes the Vata Vyadhi from the body. This, in turn, restores normalcy in the affected part of the body.
Pizchil – This is also a type of massage therapy with warm medicated oils that rejuvenates the nerves and the muscles of the affected body part.

The best ayurvedic treatment of paralysis is usually available in the ayurvedic hospitals which employ specialists for this kind of treatment. These hospitals can be found with some research on the internet. It is a good idea to read the reviews and testimonials written by people who have taken any treatment from the hospitals earlier. Then you should personally visit the hospital and check out the infrastructure, the attitude of the doctors and support staff and take the final decision to opt for treatment from a particular hospital.

The best part of ayurvedic treatment nowadays is that the ayurvedic doctors make use of modern technologies like CT scan, MRI, etc. in the diagnosis of the ailment. This makes the application of medicines and therapies even more effective. In spite of the modernization, the basic course of treatment is done by following the dictates of the ayurvedic system of medicine. Of course, you should not take any herbal medicine without the prescription of a qualified ayurvedic doctor.

At the same time, the therapies and massages mentioned earlier should also be administered by experts and you should never opt for a do it yourself approach. For instance, the wrong method of massaging can cause harm to the muscles and nerves.
