How To Perform Tawaf

Tawaf is one of the most essential and primary rituals of the minor pilgrimage; Umrah. For every pilgrim coming for umrah through its umrah packages from Manchester or any other city, it's obligatory to perform Tawaf.
Here’s how to perform Tawaf Properly.
1. In the State of Purity.
For performing tawaf, it is obligatory to be in a state of purity. Therefore, one should obtain the purification through Ghusl (if Wajib) or Wudhu. The same is the case with the clothing; it should be neat and clean. However, during tawaf, if your wudhu gets nullified, there’s no problem. One can go, perform ablution and resume tawaf just from where he/she left it.
2. Covering the Awrah; being dressed appropriately.
After achieving the purification, one should dress appropriately i.e. in accordance with Islamic teachings. If a person performs tawaf being partially/fully naked or the awrah isn’t covered properly, Tawaf remains Invalid.
For Men: Covering the entire area from the navel to the knees (at least).
For ...
... women: Covering the entire body with the exception of face and hands.
3. Boundary; Within Masjid-al-Haram.
Tawaf must be performed inside of Masjid-al-Haram i.e. within the inside boundaries. However, if your view of the Kaaba gets impeded by pillars or walls or becomes completely out of sight as a result of being on an elevated level or below ground level, tawaf is still valid.
4. Keeping the Holy Kaabah on the left side.
For pilgrims, it’s necessary to ensure that the Holy Kaabah remains on their left-hand side during the entire tawaf.
5. Staying completely outside of Kaabah.
It’s necessary to perform tawaf completely outside of the Kaabah and that also Includes Hateem (Hijr Ismail). Pilgrims should walk around the boundaries of Holy Kaabah not through or inside of it. Otherwise, tawaf becomes invalid.
6. Intention; Niyyah.
It is necessary to recite the intention of Tawaf.
7. Beginning and Ending of Tawaf.
Every pilgrim must begin and end, each of its tawaf circuits at Hajar-e-Aswad (the Black Stone). Every round must begin with Istilam (kissing or gesturing) of the Hajar-e-Aswad. One round gets completed when a pilgrim returns to its starting point i.e. Hajar-e-Aswad. The pilgrims must proceed for tawaf in the anti-clockwise direction.
8. Completion of 7 rounds.
Tawaf completes after the performance (completion) of all the 7 circuits. If you have any doubts about the number of rounds, you can perform extra circuits accordingly. After the completion, the pilgrims must move towards Maqam-e-Ibrahim and offer 2 Rakat Salat-al-Tawaf behind it.
Some Specifications regarding Tawaf.
• Men should uncover their right shoulder during tawaf.
• It is prohibited for women to cover face and hands during tawaf.
• Men will perform Raml during the first 3 rounds of Tawaf.
• You can pause/stop your tawaf for Farz salah and for Janazah prayers.
• Tawaf can also be paused if the pilgrim feels thirsty, hungry or wants to visit the loo. Just when he/she returns, should be in proper wudhu and resume from where it had stopped.
