The Portland English Language Academy (PELA) provides high-quality English language instruction tailored to meet the needs of students from all over the world.

We give students opportunities to explore, discover, and learn English in all its uses, building the skills needed to be successful in academic and business settings. We teach living English as it is used in a changing world. We offer students daily conversation practice and tutoring sessions in addition to effective English and test prep classes. Our school features a large computer lab, a fun student lounge, a quiet study lab, and large, modern classrooms. PELA is happy to offer tuition discounts for students who enrol for two or more terms of study.

PELA Intensive English program is located in Portland’s Lloyd District; central Portland’s destination for restaurants, shops and apartment living.

Life in Portland:
Portland is a beautiful, very clean and safe city. Portland has no sales tax! This makes Portland an affordable place to shop and live. Portland has a great bus and light-rail train system; you do not need a car to enjoy Portland. It is easy to visit the mountains and the beach from Portland. Portland has all the big city activities like concerts and sporting events, but it has a small town feel because it is friendly and so easy to get around. Students love Oregon, with its world famous natural beauty, variety of activities and events, and friendly people.

At our school we plan to give spoken English classes events and activities so that students can enjoy the many benefits of Portland life, such as skiing and snowboarding on Mt. Hood, trips to the Oregon Coast and other fun locations, plus NBA games, Major League Soccer, cultural festivals and events and holiday parties.

The Portland English Language Academy (PELA) helps international students with housing in 2 ways: 1) we can arrange a Homestay, or 2) we can reserve a room in our International Student House .
In the Student House, you will share a big house with other international students enrolled in PELA. We carefully choose our homestay families and we find the family that is the best match for you. All of our families are friendly and kind. They have nice houses in safe neighbourhoods, and they are eager to open their homes to you.
