Moving and relocating is an overwhelming experience for many of us. And naturally so, because there are so much of work involved from pre-move planning to post move activities. Moving is not just about packing and getting your goods delivered by the moving companies. It takes a lot of hard work, planning and tiring efforts in packing, moving and getting settled in at your new home.
If you are moving to another state, but you are still concerned about how to handle the situation and settle effortlessly once your goods are delivered, then here’s the post worth checking. Today in this post, I am going to talk about all the essential things you should do after moving to a new house.
Count and match the number boxes
Now, this is the very first thing you should be doing. You don’t have to take it on the face value, because unless you count the number of boxes, you may not know if each and every item is delivered. Packers and movers companies usually create a packing list and a copy of that list must be with you. Count the boxes and ensure that it maces the packing list.
Inspect those boxes
Most likely ...
... the movers and packers have delivered the same number of boxes and containers. And therefore, the next step is to ensure that those boxes are packed as it should be. Just carefully inspect each and every box and see if there is any damage from outside. If the packing is tampered, immediately alert the moving service provider company.
Inspect your home
Just take a good look and see to it that all the general utility supplies are ok and working like water, electricity, geyser etc. Inspect the kitchen, washroom and other rooms and see to it that everything is fine and functional. If there is any issue with anything, then you may have to call a local handyman or electrician to get that sorted.
Plan for unpacking
Now that you have counted and inspected the boxes, it’s time to take a deep breath, relax and plan for unpacking. Depending on your move size, unpacking may requires extra time and efforts. And therefore, it is important to plan for unpacking. Consider the availability of time, like if you have work or off the next day and accordingly plan for unpacking.
Clean your home
The house you are moving to may be clean, but if its locked since long, then it is better to clean everything before you actually start unpacking. If it appears like already cleaned, then maybe you can just do some basic dusting and move to the next step that is unpacking.
Unpack the essential survival box first
If you jump in and start unpacking randomly, you are going to get tired very soon, and therefore, it is better to avoid random unpacking. To begin with, unpack the essential survival box first. Once you have access to essential items you need immediately for survival, you can proceed to the next important boxes.
Unpack other items as per priority
Your next immediate priority is to setup the kitchen and bedrooms, because you need to have your meals and take rest. So start unpacking those boxes and setup the rooms that will be required immediately like the kitchen, bedrooms, washrooms etc.
As per the time and need, you can continue unpacking rest of the boxes and setup your home.
Connect appliances
The next thing to do to get settled in your new home would be to connect all the appliances like washing machine, fridge, AC, water filter etc.
Get rid of empty boxes
Once you are done unpacking all of the boxes, the next immediate challenge will be to deal with those empty moving boxes and other packing materials like foam, bubble warps etc. You may either sell those boxes and other supplies or give to those who may need it.
Now, that unpacking and re-arranging is nearly done, just conclude everything by cleaning the entire house and start living comfortably in your new home.
Over to you
