Jaundice itself is not a disease but is a symptom of several possible underlying illnesses. It is a term used to describe the yellowing of the skin and eyes. Jaundice arises when there is too much bilirubin in your system. Bilirubin is a yellow pigment in our body that is created by the breakdown of dead red blood cells in the liver. When there is any disruption in the normal metabolism of the production of bilirubin, jaundice may result.
Jaundice is caused by a rapid increase in the destruction and breakdown of red blood cells, the conditions with increased breakdown of cells are — thalassemia, auto-immune disorders, drugs or other toxins, sickle cell anemia, etc. The most common signs and symptoms seen in an individual with jaundice include — dark-colored urine, yellow discoloration of the skin, mucous membranes, and white ...

In Ayurveda, it is termed as ‘Kamala’ and is caused by the aggravation of Ranjhak pitta that is subtypes of Pitta. Kamala is produced in two different ways. — Excessive consumption of Paittika ahara & vihara by Pandu rogi or patient suffering from any disease and radically cured. The general symptoms are — Twak sphutam (cracking of the skin), Shivathanam (excessive swelling), Mridbhakshana (desire for eating clay), Avipaka (indigestion), Pitta mutra (dark yellow urine), etc.
Many natural herbs are proven in quicker healing from jaundice. Here we described some of the Natural and Ayurvedic Treatment of Jaundice that are very easy and can be used by every individual to get rid of jaundice symptoms.

Garlic — Garlic is an easily available herb and is very effective remedies to cure jaundice naturally. The allicin in garlic exhibits strong antioxidant properties. This can help in detoxifying your liver and speeding up your recovery from jaundice.
How to use — Take 4–5 cloves of minced garlic and consume it with your daily diet or the patient can also chew it directly to get better results.

Lemon Juice — The powerful antioxidant properties of lemon juice help in unblocking your bile ducts. This is very beneficial to promote the health of your liver while also protecting it from further damage.
How to use — Add the juice from half a lemon to a glass of water. Mix it well and add some honey to it. Drink the lemon juice regularly until the symptoms will overcome.

Tomatoes — Tomato is a very effective remedy to cure jaundice. It contains a compound called lycopene, which is a strong antioxidant that helps in detoxification of your liver and can also be used to cure jaundice.
How to use — To make tomato as a home remedies for jaundice take 2–3 tomatoes and 1 cup of water. Boil the tomatoes in a saucepan. Strain the mixture and remove the tomato skin. Mix the boiled tomatoes with the collected water and drink the juice once or twice daily until jaundice will cure.

Amla — Amla is the best Ayurvedic herb that has many medicinal uses. As it is rich in vitamin C and many other nutrients and is a potent antioxidant that can help in enhancing your liver health.
How to use — Take 2–3 amla, 1 cup of water and a few amounts of honey. Boil the amla in a saucepan and mix the amla pulp with the remaining water. Once the mixture cools down, add some honey and consume it once daily.

Tulsi — Tulsi is well known for its properties in Ayurveda. This herb exhibits hepatoprotective activities that are beneficial for the liver and help in the treatment of jaundice.
How to use — Take a 7–8 tulsi leaves and chew them. If the flavor is too strong to handle, you can also grind the leaves and add the paste to your favorite juice.

Oregano — Oregano is a powerful antioxidant that enhances the health of your liver, helping it to break down bilirubin molecules which in turn help in the management of jaundice.
How to use — You have to take 1–2 teaspoonfuls of oregano and 1 cup of water. Mix it and bring it in a saucepan to boil. Simmer the content for about 5 minutes. When it cools down a little, drink it immediately. This remedy should be taken twice or thrice daily.
