How To Take Care Of Color-treated Hair
You have already spent huge bucks in an extravagant hair salon to get your tresses dyed in the newest trending style and color- but it lost its vibrancy in a week due to improper care. Sounds terrible, right? Color-treated hair needs more attention to remain healthy, vibrant, and lustrous. With hair coloring being at the height of fashion nowadays, it is equally important to know about the proper techniques to take care of your dyed mane. Thankfully, experts from a hair clinic in Walnut Creek have shared the tips, which they always advise their clients to keep their colored hair healthy and bouncy. Let's have a look at those tips-
Wait Before Shampooing
When you color your hair, the cuticle layer of the hair is opened. Thus, the color gets penetrated in the hair shaft. But, washing off the hair immediately after coloring results the color to seep and drain out, as the cuticles remain open at that time. Usually, it takes about 3-4 days for the hair cuticles to get fully closed. So, it is advised to shampoo the hair only after waiting for at least 72 hours of coloring. This ensures that the color remains long-lasting.
Use ...
... Cold Water For Hair Wash
When you wash your hair with hot water, the pores of the color-treated hair becomes enlarged. Thus, the color of the hair gets washed off while cleaning the hair. Hence, in order to prevent the drainage of hair color, it is advised to shampoo your hair with lukewarm water, and following conditioning, make sure to do the final rinse with cold water. The warm water will make sure a thorough cleansing, and the cold water will lock the moisture from the conditioner into the hair shafts. The cuticles will be adequately sealed, and the color will not drain out.
Use hair care products that are Sulfate-Free.
Sodium sulfate is an anionic detergent, which is used as an active ingredient in many beauty and personal grooming products. This can create a foaming effect in products like- shampoo, conditioner, etc. Prolonged use of such products makes your hair devoid of its natural moisture. These harsh chemicals make your hair brittle, lifeless, and rough as straw. As a result, the color molecules also gets stripped, to achieve which, you spent your time and a lot of money.
Conditioner + Color
Although it may sound ridiculous, but if your tresses are dyed in the brighter hues like- purple, blue, or teal, adding a little of that dye in your conditioner while washing the hair, will ensure the longevity of the hair color. Until the roots grow out again, the hair dye will keep looking fresh by following this technique.
Avoid Washing the hair every day.
Washing the hair every day not only takes away the natural moisture and oil from the scalp making it dry but also washes away the color little by little with every wash. According to the experts of a salon offering non-surgical hair replacement services in California, washing the hair 2 to 3 times a week is the most ideal.
Use Dry Shampoo
On the days you are not washing your hair, you can use color-protect dry shampoos. Using a dry shampoo will leave your scalp fresh and your hair bouncy, without the hassle of washing the hair thoroughly. Nowadays, tinted dry shampoos are also available, which are great for temporary root touch-ups.
Minimize the use of heat styling tools
Excessive heat can cause irreversible damage to the hair, stripping away the color and hydration of the hair. The hair becomes dry, rough, and damaged. To keep your dyed tresses looking fresh for a more extended period, avoid using the thermal styling tools frequently. In addition, while using these styling tools, try to spritz a few pumps of heat protectant spray on your locks, so that the effect of heat damage can be controlled.
Save your hair from Chlorine
Chlorine is a synthetic bleaching agent. It is used in cleaning swimming pools. So, if you are planning to spend a day out in the pools, make sure to protect your hair with a shower cap. Chlorine turns Blonde hair into a greenish shade. The vibrant hues, in prolonged exposure to Chlorine, may become dried out and pale. Using conditioner over the tresses is also a great idea, as it creates a protective layer over the hair shaft, and hence Chlorine cannot penetrate through it.
Trim your mane at regular intervals
The Split ends of the hair are not capable of holding color and hence fade out even faster. It is advised to trim those split ends of your hair regularly every 8-10 weeks, so that hair looks healthy and the color looks fresh.
Use leave-in Products
Color-treated hair needs extra hydration and sun protection. It is better to use leave-in products for color-treated hair so that it feels soft, smooth, and shiny and also remains protected from the harmful UV rays of the sun.
