There was no doubt that Monster Hunter: World would be successful at home: the new part of the game series with fourteen-year history, comics and anime based on the motives simply could not go unnoticed. And in February, Capcom did not stint on advertising - in Tokyo Monster Hunter: World was everywhere. Rollers from the game were played on TVs in electronics stores, all game stores and hobby goods were hung with advertising posters. Even vitamins on TV were advertised not by peppy office workers, but by dragon-fighting hunters.
But the fact that the transition to a modern home platform will allow the series to finally get out of the ghetto for strange Japanese games and become an international hit was hard to believe. And in vain: Capcom was able to dispel prejudice and create a game that is interesting to players of all genders, ages and nationalities.
Like you, a hat of three
In Monster Hunter, the player tries on the role of a hunter, who tracks down and kills monsters, and then makes weapons and equipment from their fangs, claws, skins and other parts, so that you can fight even more fierce creatures. ...
... The cycle is repeated many times until new monsters run out in the game and the player collects raw materials to create all the things he needs.
To do this, you have to go for the same trophy more than once or twice: one skin, of course, is not enough to dress from head to toe. And you can’t do without luck: as in a multiplayer RPG, raw materials falling from monsters have a different degree of rarity, so special items must be knocked out for a long time. The game, of course, has a cross-cutting plot, filed in the form of a series of pathos videos. But let’s be honest: any turn of it leads to another battle with the monster.
This endless grind does not turn into mortal boredom only because each monster, with the exception of trifles tangled under its feet, is a special boss. Any huge creature must have several types of attacks, from which you need to learn how to dodge, and weak points where you need to aim, and some parts of the body (most often the tail) can be chopped off to get an additional reward.
Many monsters, in addition, are shocked, spit poison and burn the hunter, therefore, at the first meeting you need to be especially careful, and at the next, do not be too lazy to change into armor, blocking damage from a certain element. Fights with monsters are similar to boss battles in Dark Souls, God Eater and other adventure and role-playing games where the hero has to "dance" around a huge enemy.
There is where to turn around
However, the fights in Monster Hunter: World also have their own zest. If in most of these games (and in the previous parts of the series) boss fights take place in small arenas, then here the vast battlefield becomes a battlefield, where you can find both useful hunting equipment and unnecessary troubles. Monsters do not stand still: having received tangible damage, they run away to later repulse the hunter in the open, or, conversely, hide in the den, where it is more difficult for the hunter to avoid meeting their teeth and claws. The monsters are smart enough to use the environment to their advantage: they can climb a hill and jump on a hunter from above or, for example, fall out in the mud, so that their thick skin is more difficult to break through.
Such tricks are also not alien to the hunter. A monster can be led to a thicket of vines in which it gets entangled, or to rickety stones that will fall and temporarily immobilize it. A firefly can blind enemies, a toad can paralyze, and a puddle of poison leaks from a cut plant, poisoning anyone who steps on it. To give a monster a battle in a clearing, where there are a lot of healing herbs and insects, is also a good idea: they heal faster and more effectively than potions. You can use your own made traps, or you can generally pit two monsters with each other and sit quietly in the bushes. Monster Hunter: World encourages observation and ingenuity, and it greatly diversifies the gameplay.
New World - Old Challenges
The plot in the game is simple and serves as a guide introducing you to the game world. You are a member of the Fifth Fleet, an elite monster hunter who has sailed to explore new lands. Having created his character and cute assistant cat Paliko, the player immediately finds himself on the shores of a new world - wild and inhospitable land, teeming with prehistoric giants.
Hunter's Arsenal
In Monster Hunter 14 types of weapons, each of which defines the class of your character. Among the arsenal there are both familiar swords and bows, and a completely insane mixture of bagpipes and horn or transforming shield with a sword. The game has a simple tutorial explaining the basic combinations of punches, but in order to master all the subtleties, you will most likely have to turn to fan guides.
Weapons, like armor, cannot be knocked out of bosses or received as rewards for quests, they can only be created from fangs and bones of monsters. Therefore, it is better to decide on the class you like in the early stages of the game. Otherwise, the player dooms himself to a huge amount of grind, because you will have to maintain the relevance of several weapons at once. And in order to craft a full set of armor and pump weapons, you have to kill the right monster once or twice.
Monster Hunter: World is not perfect. The game still requires the player a huge amount of time and effort that will go to study it, despite all the attempts by Capcom to make it friendlier. But if you like games, the emphasis of which is on the constant extraction and pumping of equipment, and you are still not familiar with the Monster Hunter series, then now is the best time to get to know it.
