4 Car Troubles You Can Avoid By Doing These Simple 5-minute Checks
If you drive a car that is 5 years or older, this article is for you.
Older cars are more likely to breakdown than the brand new ones. This is because most car owners tend to be negligent about regular maintenance as the car gets older.
However, car troubles can happen to the best of us, despite following routine maintenance.
Whether you are caught up in an overheating situation or got a flat tyre while on the move, car troubles are hard to deal with. But you can avoid these troubles by doing some simple checks before taking your car for a spin.
#1 Check the coolant level
Low coolant level can cause more harm than you may think. Driving with low coolant level or no coolant at all can bring your car to a standstill at best and can blow up the head gasket at worst. Replacing a head gasket is a labour-intensive job that requires a lot of time and money. This also means that you don't get to drive your vehicle until it's fixed.
You can check the coolant level by removing the radiator cap. If the coolant is filled to the brim, you are good to go. If not, top it off with distilled water.
#2 ...
... Check the air pressure in tyres
It is common for car owners to come to the realisation of low tyre pressure or a flat tyre after driving a couple of miles. When you have come too far to go back with a flat tyre, you can always call in one of the local mobile mechanics in Sydney for roadside assistance.
If you are somewhere in the remote suburban area, make sure your spare wheel is always in good condition. Also, keep your tools handy for changing the wheel; because sometimes, you have no choice but to be your own hero.
#3 Check Brake and Clutch Fluids
Optimum brake fluid level is crucial to high-speed braking. Low brake fluid level can impact stopping power, putting your and co-passengers' safety at risk. If the brake fluid has dropped too low, you must let a mechanic assess the hoses and reservoir tank for any leakage.
Also, if the clutch cylinder loses the fluid entirely, the clutch won’t engage. Therefore, it is important to let your mechanic run a simple check to assess the condition of the clutch cylinder.
#4 Check battery health
Imagine you're driving in stop-and-go traffic. You decide to shut off the engine to save fuel. Now, the traffic starts to move, but when you turn the key, the engine won't crank. Turns out the battery has been drained out completely. Cars behind you start honking incessantly and panic takes over.
To avoid this, make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. And if your car has been running on the same battery for over 4 years, consider flipping it for a new one.
Car troubles can easily create panic, but you don't have to lose your calm over any of this as long as you have a local mobile mechanic on your speed dial. Push your car to the roadside, call in an expert and sit back.
