HP LTO4 C7974A tape delivers tremendous 800GB uncompressed media capacity. C7974A LTO-4 is intelligently engineered by Hewlett-Packard to meet demands of workstations, servers and data centers. LTO4 tape drive can backup high data volume of 1 GB onto a single HP LTO-4 data tape within average time of 8.3 seconds. It takes just over 30 seconds to write 1 GB data to LTO-2 data tape, and 12.5 seconds to the LTO-3 storage tapes.

HP LTO-4 data tapes are available in two forms, which are WORM (write once read many) and RW (re-writeable) LTO4 tapes. HP C7974W features write once read many technology. Total ownership cost of HP LTO4 technology is far superior to any other comparable tape technology. HP C7974A cartridge can accommodate 1.6 Terabytes of compressed information.

Increased bit density results in higher capacity. Therefore magnetic particles of smaller size are used in the production of LTO4 media. Smaller particles make the recording surface smoother and thinner, thus elevating the bit density of LTO-4 C7974A tape. Increased bit density has helped to raise the recording tracks from 704 for LTO3, to 896 for C7974A LTO4 data tape. Thinner recording media has helped to roll longer tape reel into the C7974A LTO4 data tape whose cartridge's size is equal to the HP LTO-3 tape.
