Caregivers are most vulnerable to excessive fatigue because of the continuous negligence of their own physical and emotional well-being. Yes, sometimes they have no other choice because of lack of support from family and friends. Some even can’t opt for respite care services due to poor financial condition. So, they have to work round the clock to take care of their loved ones which make them extremely exhausted and gradually depressed.

Here are the top five tips that you can follow to overcome caregiver fatigue.

Start writing a diary

If you have a flair for writing, putting your thoughts in a journal in clear words can help you to distress yourself. Sometimes fatigue can be due to psychological reasons. Developing a habit of writing a journal helps to declutter the mind. You can then focus on things that deserve your attention to improve the existing situation.

Indulge in your hobbies

You have long neglected your hobbies because of finding no time, but it is time to indulge in the same to feel alive again! Be it gardening, painting or photography; try to find time for your hobbies.

Set goals

Set realistic goals for yourself so that you don’t have to put your health at stake. It is unrealistic to think that you can fulfill the caregiving duties without support from family members or friends. Some caregivers hesitate to ask help and often end up having more tasks in their hand than that they can do.

Seek support

To avoid caregiver fatigue, ask support from your family members, friends or colleagues. Request them to offer some help in your caregiving journey. Tell them that you will welcome their support in any way, be it grocery shopping or refilling medical prescriptions. You can also seek emotional support by joining a community of caregivers or a spiritual group. There are also no lack of tips and advice on caregiving over the web.

Use assistive-technology devices

There are plenty of assistive technology devices such as automatic pill dispensers, medical alert device, GPS tracking devices, hydration reminder, and so on that are now available in stores (both online and physical stores). These devices are designed to offer comfort and safety to care recipients. When you are assured that your loved ones are safe and comfortable, you can also de-stress yourself. Remember, enduring physical and emotional stress for a long time can cause fatigue!

You can also practice yoga or meditation to overcome caregiver fatigue as both relaxes the mind and body. It is essential to learn how to thrive as a caregiver because it might be a long journey for which you have to overcome your fatigue by taking adequate measures.
