Have you ever considered being a Pharmacy Technician? If you have an interest in the medical field, and work well with others, maybe you could consider this occupation. This job constitutes working hand in hand with a pharmacist and together they prepare other peoples' medications. They do this by putting pills into bottles and make sure that these bottles are labeled.

People in this field will be able to get a job working in grocery stores, retail pharmacies, hospitals and nursing homes. The job prospects too are very good considering that the increase in the aging population will in turn increase the number of prescription drug usage.

If you are ready to pursue a career in this field, then the following should be able to jump start your career:

1. Getting the relevant education

You can actually begin your career even though you do not have the educational background. Most Pharmacy technicians get started in this career by being trained on the job instead of studying for it. The relevant training is normally a result of doing volunteer work at a hospital or by just assisting the pharmacist at the ...
... local grocery store. But, you definitely can go to college to get the relevant degree and with the necessary educational background as well as experience, you will be able to get more job opportunities.

2. Having a certificate

Although most states do not require a certificate, most employers would rather they do have one as this would mean that the posses the required skills and knowledge to do the work. In order to be able to get a certification, you must not have any felony convictions and you must have at least a high school diploma or a G.E.D. If you already fit these requirements, then the next step is for you to pass the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam which is administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Once you are certified, then you will have to be re-certified every two years which involves obtaining 20 hours of continuous education during the two years. Even before getting a job, you should try doing volunteer work or an internships at local hospital to get the relevant exposure, training and experience.

From here we can conclude that there two ways you can be a pharmacy technician. One is by obtaining the necessary education and the other is to get the on site job training. A word of advice, most employers prefer to hire you if you have the educational background because as mentioned earlier, this is solid proof that you have what it takes.
