Highlights
In 2009 there were 2,015 service stations in Romania. This is an increase of 23 sites compared with 2008. Datamonitor predicts that in 2010, the number of service stations will increase slightly. Petrom, which was acquired by OMV in 2004 but remains separately branded, has the largest network of sites in the country.
In 2009 there were 18 service stations located on motorways. The number of motorway sites has increased in recent years, in line with the opening of the A2 'Sun Motorway'. Rompetrol, Petrom and OMV all have motorway service stations.
There are almost 1000 service stations with a shop in Romania and there was a slight increase over 2008. However, since 2005, the overall number of service station shops has fallen. Petrom's VIVA stores sell over 1,500 products and many feature a coffee shop.
