Satta Matka is basically a betting game that originally involved a participant or a player who places a bet on the opening and closing rates of cotton that was being shipped from Bombay cotton exchange to the New York Cotton Exchange. After this, the earning potential of the person purely depends on luck as it is a form of lottery. It is a lottery game played on numbers, where numbers are drawn and people wager on these numbers to earn big money.
Satta Matka has been a trend among people for a long time ago. The records of this lottery game take us back to the 1960s. However, it is believed that the trend of Satta ...
... Matka is from even before, it originates from before the era of Indian independence but at that time it was famous with another name. Satta Matka used to be known as Ankada Jugar which means “figure gambling” during the pre-independence era

But as time passed, this system was replaced with another method of drawing numbers. In the 1960s they came up with a system to generate random numbers and that was pulling slips of numbers from a large pot which is known as Matka and therefore it became famous by the name Satta Matka.

HISTORY of Sattamatka
Now that you have the overview of Satta Matka, lets head towards its origin and history. As mentioned earlier that the Satta Matka was started in the year 1960. The lottery game became so popular in such a short period of time that they had to stop the practice in the year 1961. It was stopped by the New York Cotton Exchange as it was giving rise to a new kind of addiction. After the practice stopped, the punters started looking for alternative ways to place a bet and to keep the Matka business alive.
It was not long until they found another way. Firstly Rattan Khatri came into power and introduced the idea of placing the bet on the opening and closing rates of imaginary products. In this method, the slips of imaginary numbers were in a large pitcher. After this winning numbers were drawn by a person and the winner whose bet was correct was declared.
As time moved forward, there were many changes brought to the practice of playing Matka like people then started drawing numbers from playing cards, etc but the name of the game remained the same. ‘Matka’ was also been a part of this lottery.
In the year 1962 and 1964, Kalyani Bhagat and Ratan Khatri were playing head to head to be a Matka King. Earlier when Kalyani Bhagat introduced Worli Matka, after two years Ratan Khatri also introduced another concept and named it New Worli. The games were getting played with slight modifications. The only changes in the Worli Matka of these two were that Kalyani Bhagat’s Matka was open for playing for all days of the week from Monday to Sunday. Whereas, On the other hand, the Matka of Ratan Khatri ran for five days of the week only, that is only from Monday to Friday.
The flourishing textile mills in Mumbai proved to be very beneficial for the business of Matka. The textile workers that played Matka were in a large number. Therefore around the mill areas, bookies started opening their shops that were located mostly in Central Mumbai.
The business of Matka came to its peak in the decades of the 1980s and 1990s. These were the decades were the business has made over the expectation kind of progress. This resulted in getting the betting volumes as high as Rs. 500 crores that were laid each month. The flourishing business of Matka came to the eye of the public and Mumbai police made the dealers take this lottery game to the outskirts of the city and made them shift their base.
After this, many dealers moved their business to the outside of the state. Some moved to Gujrat, some moved to Rajasthan, and others moved to the other states of the country.
This sequence of events led the city to not have any major source to place their bet on. Therefore they started searching for alternatives ways to place their bets. Some took the help of zhatpat lotteries and other people who came from a rich background started betting on cricket matches.
Over time there were many people who came and tried to be the Matka king. Matka King is basically the person who has won a great deal of money from Matka gambling. The significant names in the history of being a Matka king are Kalyani Bhagat, Suresh Bhagat, and Ratan Khatri.
