Calibration in general sense is “adjusting” your instrument to the one which you “Trust”

Consider you have two level sensors (LS A & LS B) connected to their corresponding transmitters and, ideally, they should be providing 1V for 10 cm of the liquid and 5V for 50 cm of the same liquid. You pour some litres of a certain liquid into the beaker and start taking the readings.

Now LS A and LS B gives 1.4V and 0.9V respectively.

You pour some more of the liquid in the beaker and see the readings again. Both of them show 4.6V and 4.9V.

Through your naked eye, you can see, at first it was 10 cm of liquid and then you made it 50 cm.

Which one of the above will you trust?

You take a highly accurate level sensor with it’s own transmitter and you are informed that it is of the highest quality available. You repeat the experiment and check this LS shows 1V for 10 cm and 5V for 50cm.
