What Is Umrah And Its Importance In Islam?

Umrah, also known as ‘lesser pilgrimage’ or ‘minor pilgrimage’ holds significant religious and spiritual value for Muslims. Unlike Hajj, Umrah isn’t a religious obligation on any Muslim; it’s a sunnah of our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). However, for every Muslim (men or women) who possess the financial means for it as well as have the mental and physical capability, they should perform Umrah. If possible, multiple times in life.

Umrah Season

Umrah can be performed at any time of the year; any week, any month but the days of Hajj.

Umrah season usually starts from Moharram (1st month of the Islamic year) and lasts till the ending days of Ramadan (9th Month of Islamic Year). After which Umrah visas issuance for overseas Muslims terminates as the preparations for Hajj begin. People going for umrah through their Ramzan Umrah Packages 2020, cannot stay any longer than 15 days and must return as the Ramadan ends.

Umrah Visa

Documents required;

• Passport with 6-7 months of validity at the time of application submission.
• 2 passport-sized, coloured photographs with white background and a Front View of the applicant.
• Vaccination certificates.
• Proof of pre-accommodation in the Kingdom as well as a non-refundable return ticket.
• Duly filled, visa application form.

Important Facts;

• Umrah visa is only valid for 14 days. A pilgrim must leave the kingdom on the 15th day from arrival in Saudia Arabia.
• Umrah can also be performed on a tourist visa as per Saudi Vision 2030.
• According to new rules, the Umrah visa fee is £250/£300 per person, including children.

Rituals of Umrah

There are 4 primary rituals of Umrah.

• Entering the State of Ihram.
• Performing Tawaf of the Holy Kaabah.
• Sayee on the hills of Safah and Marwah.
• Halq/Taqsir (Cutting/Trimming/Shaving of Hair from the head).

Importance of Umrah In Islam

Strengthens Iman

Umrah is the chance of being Allah’s Guests. When a pilgrim enters haram and asks for the blessings from Allah almighty, not only he grants the pilgrims with all their wishes but also forgives them.

Removes Poverty and Sins

Ibn Mas’ood (RA) narrated that Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) said, (description of which is) One must follow-up the performance of hajj and umrah. As they remove sins and poverty just like the fire separates impurities from iron, gold, and silver.

Jihad of the Elderly

In light of a Hadith of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), The performance of Hajj and Umrah is the Jihad of the Elderly people, the Young, the weak and the women.

Improves Physical, Mental and Spiritual Health

Umrah also provides Muslims with great worldly benefits. One of which is the purification of heart, mind, soul, and body from all the weaknesses, diseases and stress.

Reward equivalent to Hajj (In Ramadan)

Ibne Abbas (RA) narrate, Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) said that Umrah performed in the month of Ramadan is equivalent to Hajj.
