A Brief Overview Of Different Courses For Nursing

The English nurse “Florence Nightingale” was the first to give meaning to the word nurse. Nursing is the essence of caring. It is a noble profession and requires dealing with different types of patients. Nursing is an essential part of the medical system as it requires the practice of taking care of sick people, treating them with care and proper medication. Besides this, possessing strong organizational and management skill for keeping patient’s records and operating medical equipment is the quality a nurse should learn.
Let’s take a look at the two courses that most aspiring nurses pursue:
B.Sc. in Nursing
Graduation in nursing or B.Sc (Bachelor of Science) in Nursing is a four years course where the candidate should have minimum criteria of completion of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as mandatory subjects. ... entrance exams held between April-June conducted by the nursing entrance board.
This course aims at imparting all the basic and necessary knowledge required to be in this profession. The nursing syllabus consists of various subjects of study such as:
1.Anatomy
2.Nutrition
3.Mental Health Nursing
4.Child Care Nursing
5.Psychology
6.Community Health Nursing
7.Microbiology
8.Nursing Research and Statistics and many others.
During the course, the candidates are being taught to work in a variety of specialities, work independently, as well as work as a part of a team to access, plan, implement and evaluate care.
After completion of B.Sc Nursing
1.One can become a nurse by joining private / government hospitals. Different roles to be performed are classified as:
●General Nurse- Their primary job is to take care of patients and help doctors in hospitals, nursing homes and medical establishments.
●Midwives- Nurses who specialize in taking care of expecting mothers and assist them during childbirth.
●Health workers- Nurses who provide medical aid facilities to people living in parts of rural area.
2.Can also take up administrative and teaching positions in medical colleges.
3.Can further opt for advance course of Nursing like:
●M.Sc.
●M.Phil.
●Ph.D.
Students who have just completed the course from the best nursing college in Bangalore or elsewhere may get a job with around 7000 to15000 per month salary and two to three years of experience may get 20000 to 30000 per month.
M.Sc. in Nursing
Master’s in Nursing (M.Sc.) is a two years course. The aim of the postgraduate program in nursing is to prepare graduates to assume responsibilities of nurse specialist, consultants, educators and administrators in a variety of professional settings.
There are lots of specialized areas like:
●Community Health
●Medical-Surgical
●Pediatrics Obstetrics and Gynecology
●Psychiatry etc.
Other than M.Sc. in Nursing one can take up other certification courses like:
●M.Sc. in Biotechnology
●M.Sc. in Neuroscience
●M.Sc. in Clinical Research
●M.Sc. in Rental Sciences and Dialysis Technology
●M.Sc. in Medical Sociology
●M.Sc. in Medical Microbiology and Biochemistry
B.Sc. graduates can also opt for Post Graduate Program in Public Health Management (PGPPHM) or can pursue MBA in Hospital Management or Pharmaceutical Management.
So, there is a huge scope in the nursing field. This profession is appreciated everywhere including abroad. Plenty of job opportunities are available in India and abroad as well. You just need to put efforts and energy in right direction.
