Body contouring, just like any other surgery, carries a set of risks and complications. Of course, it is a safe procedure, yet every surgery has a risk factor.

You must discuss risks and complications with your surgeon before you undergo the procedure. A good surgeon will always throw light on the risks involved in the surgery. They will also take the utmost care to minimize risks and make your procedure as safe as possible.

Usually, this procedure is done after the patient shows a stable body weight.

Here is a glimpse of the common risks involved after the procedure.

Inflammation and bruising

The treated area may swell or show bruises. This is a response of the body to the shock that it underwent when the excess skin was removed.

The body always undergoes a shock after any kind of surgery.

The bruises may last a few days or a few weeks, depending on the degree of body contouring surgery near MD and the technique used by the surgeon. The surgeon ...
... will give you compression garments to wear. They decrease inflammation and help in healing while keeping skin firm and tight. Make sure you wear the garment correctly.

Numbness

There can be two effects in this case:

• Your skin shows lesser sensitivity at the surgery site for a temporary period
• The treated area may become completely numb

In some patients, it may take several years before your skin gets back its full sensation. Permanent loss of sensation can also happen in rare cases.

Allergic reaction

The surgery involves the use of anesthesia, tape, gauze, and other such materials. These may cause allergies in some patients. You may experience rashes, itchiness, or redness due to the gauzes and tapes used. Anesthesia may cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, light-headedness, congestion, and cough in some patients. These are temporary reactions.

If you have a known allergy, you must tell the surgeon about it before the surgery.

Wound separation

In some cases, major incisions may come apart after body contouring plastic surgery in Maryland. This is usually the surgeon’s fault because he or she may not have sutured the wounds after the surgery properly. This may not pose a health risk, but it can definitely prolong your healing period. It may also require extra bandaging processes, not mentioning the discomfort you go through and the horror of watching your wound come apart.

Seroma

Fluid may accumulate in tissue pockets along the surgery site. That’s the reason you find surgical drain tubes attached to your surgical site after you wake up from anesthesia. This is to let the excess fluid drain out. Yet, in some cases, despite the tubes, fluid buildup or Seroma occurs. The fluid will have to be removed surgically in this case.

Other risks are:

• Infection
• Skin necrosis
• Excessive bleeding
• Deep vein thrombosis

These may occur rarely, but are possible. A lot depends on the skill and the care taken by the surgeon while performing the surgery. That’s why it is crucial to choose the right surgeon for body contouring surgery near MD.
