Certain fruits can cause or worsen GERD symptoms, especially highly acidic fruits. If you eliminate or reduce the intake of following fruits you will surely get relief from acidity. Highly acidic fruits are — Oranges, Lemons, Pineapples, Limes, etc.
Fat takes the longest time to leave the stomach, therefore, reduce the number of fatty meats, butter, oils, salad dressings, milk products like sour cream, cheese, and whole milk.
Make an upright posture while eating and for 45–60 minutes afterward. Avoid too much bending over or reaching below your waist after meals.
Being overweight can promote acid reflux. Excess abdominal fat puts pressure on the stomach. According to research, 40% of overweight persons experience heartburn. So, keep doing certain exercise which will help in reducing the weight.
Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothing. Clothing that fits tightly around the abdomen will squeeze the stomach and causes food to reflux into the esophagus.
Stop smoking — The nicotine in cigarettes can weaken a part of your lower esophageal sphincter. This muscle controls the opening between the esophagus and your stomach. When it gets weak, it keeps acid and other things in your stomach from going back up.
