Tips To Stay Safe This Holiday Season

It’s the holiday season, and if you love being festive, then it’s time to start decking the halls! The last thing you want during this happy time of year is to face an injury. To minimized injuries and accidents, we’ve gathered a few tips to help keep you safe and filled with holiday cheer.
Careful When Hanging Lights
According to the U.S. Fire Administration, the month of December is the deadliest month for electrical fires. Before hanging your lights, make sure to check for frayed cords on your lights. After ensuring all lights are safe to hang, begin decorating with caution. It is important that you check the weather before hanging up any lights. Never use a ladder alone. You should have a ladder buddy to keep a hold of the ladder at all times, and also be sure your ladder is sturdy and can hold your weight.
Decking Your Home With Decorations
Similar to hanging lights, there are many precautions to follow when adding a wreath, blowups, or garland to your home. If you are using a ladder, it is imperative to have someone holding the ladder. If you need to go onto your roof, avoid walking upright, ...
... and crawl on all fours instead. This will lower the risk of losing your balance and footing. Wear appropriate safety attire such as work gloves, safety glasses, warm clothing, and long sleeves.
Beware of Those Stealing Packages
During this gift-giving season, you’re likely determined to keep gifts out of sight from children. But, you also should keep gifts out of sight of your door step as this time of year is notorious for stolen packages. When ordering online, some sites allow you to add extra delivery instructions to your order. This way you can have your package left by a side door, so thieves cannot spot your package. Consider adding a doorbell camera or other outdoor security cameras to help identify any potential burglaries.
Watch for Icy Sidewalks
While Oklahoma may not be the snowiest state, as temperatures lower our chances of ice increase. Be alert of ice patches while walking in and out of parking lots or holiday parties. Make sure to walk carefully, have the proper shoe wear, and keep your eyes peeled for black ice or sunny glares on the pavement.
