Hajar-e-Aswad also known as ‘The Black Stone’ present in Masjid-al-Haram, Makkah, Saudia Arabia, remains engraved in the southeast wall of the Holy Kaabah. It was initially placed there by Hazrat Ibrahim (AS), therefore dates back to thousands of years. It is the most beautiful, rare and holiest stone present in the universe as it was sent from Jannah by Allah Almighty.

Jewels of Paradise:

As narrated in Islam, Hajar-e-Aswad and the Maqam-e-Ibrahim are the two jewels from the jewels of Paradise, the radiance of whose is so bright that they can illuminate everything between the east to the west of the world. However, Allah Almighty has ceased their radiance so that the world could remain in normal functionality.

Physical Characteristics and Appearance of the Stone

Colour;

When the Hajar-e-Aswad descended from Jannah, it was in pure white state, whiter than milk. However, the sins that mankind made afterwards turned it black in colour. The concept remains mentioned in Hadith. That’s why Hajar-e-Aswad is also known as “The Black Stone”.

Fragments and ...
... Protective Case;

Initially, Hajar-e-Aswad was a complete, whole stone. Due to various historical events, the stone now consists of 8 small pieces which are further attached to the larger stone. At present, Hajar-e-Aswad remains kept in a Protective case made of Silver.

Importance of Hajar-e-Aswad

Spiritual Value for Muslims

Keeping in view its origin, history, and association with Islam, the stone carries a significant religious and spiritual value for Muslims. Many prophets who came for Tawaf of the Holy Kaabah, touched and kissed the stone. Including our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

Kissing the Black Stone

For Muslims, kissing the black stone is sunnah as well as a ritual of pilgrimage.

Things to consider;

One should always keep in mind when kissing black stone, he/she should never harm the pilgrims around it. Since the region of Hajar-e-Aswad always remains crowded, pushing and shoving of the crowd is a common thing. In this regard, one can opt for any of the following methods.

1. If you are close to Hajar-e-Aswad and kiss it easily without injuring or harming anyone, you must kiss it and recite Takbeer.
2. If you cannot kiss the Hajar-e-Aswad directly, you must point at it with your hand or a stick while reciting the Takbeer and then kiss your hand or the stick.
Both of these methods are sunnah of our prophet (SAWW).

Acceptance of Duas and the Day of Judgement

Hajar-e-Aswad is not an ordinary stone but the stone of Jannah. Duas made at Hajar-e-Aswad are accepted. It also remains narrated by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that on the Day of Judgement, the black stone will testify in front of Allah Almighty, in favour of all those people who kissed it.

Muslims don’t worship the black stone but kiss it as a sign of respect and remembrance of Sunnah. Every pilgrim coming through Hajj packages Birmingham or any other city has to kiss the Hajar-e-Aswad during tawaf. In fact, it is one of the many rituals of pilgrimage.
