‘A long-distance hiking trail’, is what best describes the Annapurna Circuit Trek or what it is often called. It is one of the most popular treks in Nepal which is visited by thousands of trekkers from around the world, every year. Small villages, comfortable tea houses, comforting food, spectacular vistas and a lot of memories are what the Annapurna Trek is made of! The hikers first discovered the trail in the seventies but it gained popularity among the trekking enthusiasts only in the late eighties.
Like most of the other treks, the journey of Annapurna Trek begins from the capital town-Kathmandu and ends there as well. There are two appropriate times during the year to undertake trekking in Nepal--one in October and November and the other in April and May.
If you have successfully experienced the
annapurna circuit trek but wish to add a different experience to your traveling portfolio, here are a few suggestions that will take your trekking experience to a completely new level.
Treks to do after Annapurna Circuit Trek—4 suggestions
1. Around Manaslu Trek
Once you have taken the 18 day Annapurna Trek successfully, you will be more than confident to undertake a trek in Manaslu Circuit that will last about 16 nights and 17 days. The expedition begins and ends at Kathmandu and takes one to the maximum altitude of 5160 meters. Among the diverse flora and fauna, rich heritage and culture and scenic beauty, the major attraction of the trek remains Mount Manaslu at 8163 meters, the 8th tallest mountain in the world.
2. Langtang Valley Trek with Ganja La
If trekking a new place gives you a new kind of high and an infinite pleasure, choose the Langtang Valley Trek with Ganja La. It is considered to be the most diverse trekking trail in Nepal that lasts for about 13 days. The trek is considered to be medium to a high level difficult and the best time to take it is from mid-March to December. The expedition to the Langtang Valley will introduce you to the rich and diverse culture, unusual flora and fauna and some incredible waterfalls that complete the trek.
3. Chadar Trek
If you have had enough of Nepal and want to experience a newer region for trekking, welcome to India! The Chadar Trek in the Leh, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir region is a befitting trail once you have tried the moderately difficult Annapurna Circuit Trek. The 62 kilometers long trekking trail can be ideally covered in 8 nights and 9 days. The best time to trek is January and February. The trek is unique in its own way since it is only here that you will find frozen waterfalls and absolute soundless surroundings. But ensure that you are prepared for extremely cold temperatures that can vary from -15 to -35 degrees Celsius.
4. Kashmir Great Lakes Trek
If we are talking about treks in India, the beauty of Kashmir cannot be ignored. The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek covers the beauty of some of the major lakes such as Gadsar, Nundkol, Gangabal, Krishansar, and Vishnusar in the Himalayan ranges in India. The trek starts and ends at Sonamarg/Narang and extends to about 7 days and 8 nights.
The total trekking distance is about 71 kilometers approximately. Besides getting close to these high altitude lakes, the trekkers can soak in the natural vistas and outstanding landscapes that are everywhere one sees. The Kashmir great lakes trek is often regarded as one of the best treks in the Kashmir region.
