Zero Waste Guide – Bathroom
The bathroom is one of the most personal places in our home and we like to keep it clean and tidy. However, do you know that your bathroom can be the factory that churns out lots of non-biodegradable wastes and chemicals every year?
You use toothpaste, shampoos, hair conditioners, body washes, shower gels, etc. regularly in your bathrooms. These products contain many chemicals in them which get flushed out from your bathroom to the ground where insects and other living organisms might get exposed to them.
Not only that, since you use new products after the previous ones get exhausted, you unknowingly increase the non-biodegradable plastic which might directly increase in soil or water pollution somewhere else.
What can be done for this? Well, you can use homemade shower gels, body washes, shampoos, soaps, and other products of your daily use. Avoid using chemicals in them and store them in glass containers so that you don't have to replace them too often. By doing so, you will be able to create an eco-friendly bathroom without creating any unnecessary waste!
Today, we will look at how to make some homemade ...
... shower and self-care products in our attempt to transform our bathroom into a waste-free zone.
Shower - Homemade DIY Shower Products
We use shower gels, body scrubs, body oils, and many other products in our bathroom. Let us see how to make some of these products in our home without the use of chemicals:
Natural shower gel
Shower gels are probably the most overused products in our bathrooms. Therefore, let us learn how to make a natural alternative shower gel without any fuss!
Ingredients:
Essentials oils such as lavender, rose, etc. as per your preference
Almond or coconut oil – 2 teaspoons
A quarter cup (1/4) of unadulterated honey
Liquid castile soap – two-third (2/3) cup
Procedure
Take a glass bottle and measure each of the ingredients carefully before pouring them in the bottle.
Firstly, pour the liquid castile soap and afterward drop the cup of honey on it. Add 2 teaspoons of coconut/almond oil in it and lastly, add 40 to 50 drops of any of your favorite essential oils in it. You can also add multiple essential oils but do not forget to divide the quantity precisely.
Shake the bottle nicely before using it. Your natural, aromatic, and bubbly shower gel is ready to use!
Natural hair conditioner
A natural hair conditioner keeps your hair healthy, smooth, and shiny at the same time. Let's see how to make a natural hair conditioner in our home.
Ingredients:
1 cup of water
1 large tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
Procedure
Take an old conditioner bottle if you already have it and clean it thoroughly. Otherwise, you can also use a small glass bottle.
Pour apple cider vinegar and water and mix it thoroughly by shaking it. You can double the proportions if required.
Do not forget to shake the bottle nicely every time you need it. Take out some solution from the bottle and massage it gently on your scalp for some minutes. After that, apply it generously over your hair and rinse it after a couple of minutes.
Self Care- Essential Oils, Carrier Oils – Usage
Essential oils have become very popular these days as they provide numerous benefits to our body and mind. Carrier oils are usually used to dilute the effect of essential oils as they might be too concentrated to use or apply directly to the skin.
Rosemary essential oil
Rosemary essential oil is retrieved from the rosemary plant and has a refreshing fragrance as well. You can take an old perfume spray bottle and clean it well.
After that, you can pour 30 to 40 drops of Rosemary essential oil and add 20 to 25 drops of carrier oil like almond or coconut to dilute it. You may also add more or less as required.
Shake the bottle well before using it as a perfume. It not only smells great but has a positive effect on your mood and also keeps your memory sharp. Therefore, it can be used as a DIY self-care product.
Ginger essential oil
The ginger essential oil has numerous benefits. You can blend it with other oils to improve your blood circulation. It also relaxes muscle stress and pain. Let us make a self-care product from ginger oil that cures the digestive disorder.
For that, you must take a clean glass bottle and pour 15 to 20 drops of ginger oil in it. Pour an equal quantity of some carrier oil and shake the bottle nicely.
Now, you can apply it on the lower part of your stomach if you suffer from stomach pain or lose motions.
