Who Is Richard Farrant?
Are you physically unfit to travel? By this we don’t mean that you are suffering from some contagious disease and the doctor has prescribed you rest till you recover. What we want to know is whether you are born with some physical deformity that prevents you from carrying out the daily activities? There are many individuals who suffer from deformities. In our experience we have seen that these people fall in any one of the two categories – they either sulk about their problem, remain demotivated throughout their life or they do not consider their inability to be any limit to living an independent life. Today we are going to talk about an inspirational solo backpacker who was born with Friedreich’s Ataxia, a disorder affecting the nervous system. He has travelled to different parts of the world inspite of his disability.
Richard Farrant was diagnosed with this ailment when he was 8 years old. When he was in college his ability to walk was completely affected. He became wheel chair bound at the age of 19. But he did not let this affect his desire to travel. At the age of 21 he started to travel and chronicle his experiences so that he can motivate and encourage others to do the same. So far he has travel to USA, Australia, Philippines, and Hong Kong. He has travelled to these places multiple number of times. He is sharing his experiences on his website globewheeling.com.
