It situated in the north-west aspect of Nepal. The word"Mustang" in the Tibetan language identifies the"fertile soil". It's been started for tourists only after 1992. However, the area is still limited and very limited number of overseas tourist trip there. The folks residing here are largely affected by Tibetan culture and customs. People of the area still exercise Tibetan culture and traditions and most of them talk Tibetan language.

Upper Mustang (the previous kingdom of Nepal) is also known as"The Forbidden Kingdom". The final Bista king of Upper Mustang has been Raja Jigme Dorje Palabar Bista. All the allowances he had been getting in the Nepal government was cut away. As per the new constitution he's no longer the king of Upper Mustang. However, the people of Upper Mustang still regard him as their king. They give him the royal esteem.

Due to the remoteness of the region, the people of the region (Mustangi) are forced to practice all the conventional instruments and methods of life. They use horses and donkeys as a way to transport goods from one place to another.
