How To File Itr Online In India
Filing of Income Tax Return is a mandatory process for individuals and businesses which fall under these categories-
Individuals below 60 years of age and earning an income of or above 2,50,000 INR per annum.
Senior Citizen between 60 and 80 years of age having income equal to or more than 3,00,000 INR.
Super-Senior-Citizen having above 80 years of age and an income of or above 5,00,000 per annum.
A business, regardless of profit or loss, filing ITR for the financial year is a requirement.
If any individual or business is looking forth to claiming a tax refund for the fiscal year.
An Indian citizen who maintains an asset or business interest established outside India.
If you are looking for a loan, then ITR filings are taken as legitimate income proofs. You will need them for opting to any kind of loan.
You may draw huge penalties if you fail to pay ITR even if you are eligible for it.
Last Date For Filing ITR
The last date of filing ITR for Individuals, Body of Individuals (BOI), Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), Association of Persons (AOP) is 31st of July every year. ...
... While the last date for businesses which require audit is 30th Sept every year and the last date for businesses which require TP (Transfer Pricing) audit report is 30th Nov of every year.
Documents required for filing ITR
Following documents are required for filing ITR
Choose the applicable ITR form.
Link PAN with Aadhar.
For Salaried Tax-Payers
To E-File your ITR, keep the following documents ready-
Monthly salary slips.
Form 16 given by the employer.
PAN
Documents for interest income
Bank Statement or passbook
Income Interest Statement for Fixed Deposits
TDS documents issued by banks and others
Form 26AS
Section 80C Investment Documents
Documents required to claim expenses as deductions
Supplement to provident fund
Offspring’s school tuition fees
Life insurance premium payment
Stamp duty and registration charges
Principal repayment in your home loan
Equity-linked saving scheme/ Mutual funds investment
Up to 1.5 lacs can be claimed under section 80C.
The procedure of filing ITR
Do not forget to file your ITR every year on time as there is a penalty if you fail to do so. One can file ITR online at the comfort of their homes, follow this step by step guide to know more-
Visit the e-filing website: https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/
To upload ITR, follow these instructions-
Download the required ITR preparation software for the relevant assessment year to your Laptop/PC from the "Downloads" page.
Prepare the Return using the downloaded Software. (Collect all the information regarding your income, tax payments, deductions etc. Fill in the personal details and tax payments/TDS by clicking on the 'Pre-fill' button. Compare the data with the information you have to make sure that nothing is left out. Enter all data and click on 'Calculate' to compute the tax and interest liability and final figure of Refund or Tax payable. If Tax is payable- remember to pay immediately and enter the details in the appropriate schedule. Repeat the above step so that tax payable becomes zero. Create and save the Income Tax Return data in XML format in the desired path/location on your PC/Laptop.)
Select ‘New Registration’ If you are a new user. Provide a valid email id and phone no., you will receive an OTP and further communications on them.
Now, select the login option and enter your credentials.
Go to ‘e-file’ and click upload return
Select the applicable ITR, assessment year and browse and select the previously saved XML file.
Upload Digital Signature Certificate (DSC), if relevant.
Click on Submit button.
The upload ITR process is complete if DSC is uploaded. If not, the ITR-V form would be displayed (also sent to registered email id), download it, print, sign it and send to the Central Processing Centre (CPC) within 120 days. The return will be processed only upon receipt of ITR-V
To prepare and submit ITR online, follow these instructions- (Only ITR-1/ITR 4S can be filled online)
Visit the e-filing website: https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/
Log in with your credentials and other information.
Go to e-file and click ‘prepare and submit ITR online’
Select the ITR form ITR -1/ITR 4S and the assessment year.
Furnish the details and click submit.
Upload Digital Signature Certificate if relevant.
Click Submit.
The prepare and submit ITR process is complete if DSC is uploaded. If not, the ITR-V form would be displayed (also sent to registered email id), download it, print, sign it and send to the Central Processing Centre (CPC) within 120 days. The return will be processed only upon receipt of ITR-V
These are the steps involved in filing ITR online. Be watchful for the non-receipt message of ITR-V form, if received, resend the ITR-V form.
