New Years In This Paradise

Since the past 4 years, we have been partying at home on New Year’s Eve. It got boring and so I thought we needed to do something exciting. My husband was pretty caught up with his work and hence I was given the responsibility to plan something special.

While talking to a friend I learned about Rishikesh camping packages and I knew that my husband had Rishikesh on his list since long. So, I did my research and planned everything, all I told him was that we were going for a holiday somewhere in the mountains. We wanted to take a break from our busy lives and reconnect with nature and instead of partying, a mountain vacation on New Year’s Eve sounded perfect.

He didn’t have the slightest clue that we were headed for Rishikesh.

For adventurers, this is a paradise as Rishikesh is an ideal spot for white-water rafting and trekking the Himalayas. I chose Rishikesh camping packages instead of hotels because I wanted to try something new.

Itinerary

Day 1: Check-in to camp

We checked-in at the camp. My husband was overwhelmed as he loves adventure sports and he knew river-rafting was on the cards in the next 2 days. There are a lot of activities on offer at the camp and we went swimming in the natural river pool. My husband loved it, and just sat in the water, enjoying the mountain views. I haven’t seen him so relaxed in a long time.

In the evening, we had a bonfire and met some other campers. It was the 30th December, so it was super cold, but we were quite cosy with jackets and shawls and the blazing fire. They gave us hot soup and BBQ snacks also, and we made friends with new people. After a delicious dinner, we retired to our tents.

Day 2: Rafting in Rishikesh

We made an early start to our day by meditating and practising yoga. After a good breakfast, we made our way to the Ganges for rafting that we had been wanting to do for so long. Really, the experience of rafting in Rishikesh cannot be described, and we ended it with cliff jumping and body surfing. Post that we were transferred back to the campsite. We changed and washed up, and got ready for our New Year’s Eve party at the campsite.

That night, a DJ was playing some slow songs to start the evening, and we met our new friends from the previous day. We had a couple of drinks and chatted about our jobs and lives, and watched as more people came to check in to the campsite. By midnight, the DJ had started playing dance music, and we were all dancing happily. At midnight, there were fireworks from every campsite, and we sat back and watched the skies light up.

I think this was the best New Years that we had spent in years. I’m glad that I choose this package out of all the Rishikesh camping packages available. That day we were sure that from now on, we will try and take a break and explore our country at least once in a year.
