How To Fix Your Amazon Intercom Not Working

Echo devices are pretty versatile and capable of performing several tasks, and they have become even more accurate with the updates. Amazon Intercom is one of the smartest intercom systems for contacting other devices and the people in your device’s contact list. The device mostly works great, but sometimes it can show frequent issues and errors that can be disappointing. Read this article thoroughly, and then you will be able to troubleshoot Amazon Echo intercom whenever it acts up.
Solution 1: Speak Out Correct Device Name
Before you troubleshoot the main issue, the first thing that you should ensure is that you are saying the correct terms and using the right command. Here is what you need to do in order to improve your Echo commands and speak out the correct device name:
1. Make sure to name the Echo devices with an easy word or term and don’t use the tough words for naming your Echo smart devices.
2. If you want to use the drop-in feature, then use this command: “Alexa, drop in on the (the device name in which you want to drop in)”
If that doesn’t work for your issue then apply ...
... these steps to start a drop-in call with the Alexa app installed on your smartphone:
1. Open the Alexa app on your smartphone and then head to the Conversation tab.
2. Find the Drop-in button.
3. Press the Drop-in option once you locate it.
4. In the new menu, choose the device on which you want to make a call.
5. After the establishment of the connection, continue with your conversation.
6. If you want to end the call, then speak out, “Alexa, hang up.”
Keep in mind that when you use the Drop-in call system, the device on which you are specifically sending the call will ring, and other Alexa devices will stay silent. This is the biggest difference in the Drop in call and straightforward Alexa call.
On the Alexa call, your all connected devices will start ringing whenever you make your Alexa call on your own devices.
Solution 2: Your Echo is Not Supported
Is it a good idea to take a look at the supported Echo devices for the Drop-In feature or using the echo as an intercom. Here are the Echo devices that support the Drop IN and Intercom feature:
1. The first and second generations of Amazon Echo.
2. The first and second generations of Echo Dot smart speaker.
3. Echo Show
4. Echo Plus
5. Echo Spot
Solution 3: Checking the Wi-Fi Connections and Status
It is one of the most common issues that cause failure errors on Echo speakers when you use it as an intercom. If the device is not connected to your Alexa account, then you might see failure experience while making Drop-in calls. To fix the issue, all you need to do is to ensure that your device is available in the list of connected Echo devices.
If that doesn’t fix the problem, then make sure to turn off your internet router and start it again after waiting for a few seconds. This will refresh the WiFi router and might fix the issue.
Solution 4: Use Alternative Voice Commands for Alexa Echo Intercom
Try to communicate with your Alexa Echo speaker via different commands such as tell it to change the TV channel or ask the time. This will help you in understanding the issues in voice identification. Your Echo device might not be able to understand your commands, and this can be the main reason for the Echo intercom issue. If the speaker is able to understand and follow your other commands, then it means your device is working correctly, but something else is causing the failure while making Drop-in Echo calls.
Solution 5: Try A Different Way
If you are still facing the Alexa Echo intercom issues, then you should try the Announcements feature. This feature simply sends a voice announcement message to all of your connected Alexa Echo speakers. Here is how to use the Echo Announcement feature instead of the Drop-in feature:
1. Say, “Alexa, tell everyone” and then speak out your message that you want to send.
2. Say, “Alexa, broadcast,” and just after that, tell your message.
3. Speak out, “Hey Alexa, announce that (message).
These commands will surely allow you to communicate between your Echo smart speakers and thus you will be able to use Echo as an intercom.
