Will IPv6 ever happen? Did you ever ask this question? Most probably you have and still haven’t been able to get the correct answer. However, I am attempting to answer this and many such queries through this blog.

Why is no one using IPv6?

The main reason why IPv6 is not being used is because IPv4 is still not exhausted. IPv4 is still widely available and is bought or sold on IPv4 Marketplace through official brokers and facilitators of RIRs.

The other reason is that IPv6 adoption 2019 is painstakingly very slow. Large organizations who have surplus IPv4s are either delaying to let go of them or delaying the complete adoption of IPv6.

Why no one is using IPv6?

With the growing number of internet users going beyond 4 million (Source: Internet World Stats), people are using more mobile devices to communicate with each other, usage of internet of things in day to day activities (that work on IPv6 only) has increased demand for more IPs, yet the move from IPv4 to IPv6 is slow organizations have taken the middle way where both IPv4 and IPv6 are interoperable.

Companies and organizations ...
... who have excess IPs are now slowly selling them, hence IPv4s are still being actively circulated everywhere. There are many who are apprehensive to do the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 due to high cost and complete infrastructure revamp.

Why is IPv4 used?

To grow a business, companies use bulk email marketing and what they need is unique IPs, IPv4s are feeding this group of companies and institutions may not want to use an expensive IPv6, rather buy cost-effective IPv4 blocks that range between $16.50 to $19.50.

IPv4, an investment option:

Trading in IPv4 blocks is also a very good investment option for businesses who want to buy IPs now for a less price and later sell them at a higher rate, in turn earn profits from the transactions. The price of one IP has grown from $8 in 2014 to nearly $20 in 2019, a 150% increase in price, which is huge and this amount is going to rise further since IPv4s are very much available and being used extensively.
