The Best Jetpack Modules

Jetpack is a modular plug-in, and its features are broad and varied. That means that you won't get a focused experience like you'd find from data visualization tools like Tableau or Google analytics plug-ins like MonsterInsights. But this modular structure allows you to pick and choose the tools that interest you without having to worry about being slowed down by the features you don't need. Here are some of the best module you'll find in Jetpack.

Publicize

Maintaining communications with your customers requires a lot more than just keeping your website up to date. Social media platforms are one of the best ways to engage with your existing clients and draw in more customers, and Publicize makes that easy. This module lets you automate the process of sharing your site's content across multiple social media platforms.

Stats

It can be hard to understand how effectively your content is connecting with customers without the data and analysis ...
... to back it up. That's where the Stats module comes in. You can think of it as a simplified version of Google Analytics that allows you to weed out all the redundant and unnecessary information that plugin provides and lets you focus on the metrics that matter for your site's profitability.

VaultPress

Every site needs to be secured in case the worst happens, and VaultPress have you covered. This storage solution makes it easy to back your site's data up. While there are a number of data backup tools on the market, the VaultPress modules is designed with Wordpress sites explicitly in mind, and it separates itself from the rest of the pack due to its ease of use. Once VaultPress is set up, you'll get consistent backups in an automated fashion without having to make any manual efforts on your part.

Site Management

While it may not be that necessary for people running a single site, Site Management is a critical top down tool for overseeing the content on multiple sites. Especially useful is the ability to easily manage all of your plugins on a site by site basis.

Pricing

There's no one size fits all solution for Jetpack, so the choice that's right for you will come down to your needs. The four subscription packages available range in price from free to affordable, and even the free version comes with a host of cool features like access to over a hundred Wordpress themes and marketing tools. If you're a serious business owner, the $29 a month you'll pay for the business package is well worth it. Automated backups are available with all of the paid subscription.

Setting Up Jetpack

If you're using Wordpress, Jetpack is rather easy to install. Jetpack can be installed directly through the Admin area of your website by navigating first to the Plugins tab and then to New. While Jetpack usually appears underneath the Featured section, you can also use the search function to track down the package. Clicking on Install Now and then Activate will begin the installation process.

The rest of the process is a largely guided experience. You'll be prompted to log in to your Wordpress account manually for verification purposes and approve of the syncing process. You should now be able to find Jetpack listed underneath Site Admin in the left panel. You'll have the option to choose a premium or free plan, but you can change this at any time, and starting with a free plan is a great way to decide what subscription is right for you.

As mentioned earlier, Jetpack is a modular plugin, so you can choose which options you want to enable or disable. These are accessible through a simple checklist on the Settings tab of the plugin. We suggest disabling devicepx-jetpack.js and jetpack.css, as these files can slow your site down while offering little in return. Modules can be turned on or off easily through the checklist, so you can experiment with the options as much as you want with no negative impact.
