Setting Basic Criteria When Selecting Your College - Part 10
This is the last part of this article that discusses about setting basic criteria when you have the challenging task of choosing your college. Making a choice is never simple. It isn't as simple as choosing between vanilla ice cream and flavored ice cream. Understanding your preferences in each area discussed in earlier parts of this article is the first important step towards your search for the perfect college for your needs. The next step which is usually not given much attention is prioritization. This article discusses the importance of prioritization of criteria and the process of doing it.
Importance of prioritization
Not all colleges offer all courses. You may have set a particular professional degree as well as local college as your criteria; however, if that degree is not offered by any of your local colleges, you have to make a choice as to whether it is more important to get into the profession you like or the professional degree that you want. Your personal obligations may restrict you from moving out of your locality. In this case, you might also want to reconsider an online course where previously ...
... you wanted to attend college.
Musts and Haves
Prioritization brings about changes in your preferences. Prioritization may also make you realize that some of your criteria are a must while others are good to have. That's why prioritization should begin by first segregating the musts from the good-to-haves. The list of musts will always be shorter than the list of good-to-haves, if you really look down. The less the number of musts you have, the more choices you will have.
Once your selection criteria have been segregated, use it to narrow down your list. Remember that each of the shortlisted college must satisfy the requirement you identified as a must. This will help ensure that the college you finally get into is the college that is best for you and your needs.
