Buying a house for us Indians isn’t just about money; it’s about emotions and values that will be passed on to future generations. That is why selecting a home is such a crucial decision in which the whole family participates and sometimes even your friends and neighbours. The Indian real estate knows this phenomenon and they leave no stone unturned to match your requirements.

After pricing and location, the third most enquired query is Vastu Shastra compliance, in fact in many cases it’s the first priority. That’s how important a house is where you want everything to be perfect. However, not many people are aware of the rules and laws of Vastu and they end up buying a home that is not as per their requirements.

Vastu Shastra is an ancient science that gives insights on how to build a well-lit, ventilated and spacious house. It is based on a directional grid and can be broken into 9 parts such as:
North - West (NW) - Vayu (God of wind)
North - Kubera (God of wealth)
North - East (NE) - Ishana (God of water)
West - Varuna (Controls rain and water)
Centre - Bramha (Creator of ...
... life)
East - Aditya (Sun God)
South - West (SW) - Pitru (Ancestors)
South - East (SE) - Agni (God of fire)

Given below are some of the important points you should consider before buying a house:

You must look for a home with more windows to the east and north as it will allow maximum sunlight to penetrate during the morning which is a good source of vitamin D.
The layout of the plot must be a square or a rectangle having roads on all sides which are not possible in case of an apartment.

If it’s an apartment then checking the east to west direction or north to south direction is crucial.
North or east direction is preferred for Drawing room/living room/corridor.
The north-east direction is preferred for the Prayer / Pooja room or study room.
The south-west direction is preferred for the Master bedroom.
The north-west direction is preferred for guest bedroom.

West or south direction is preferred for children’s bedroom
South-east or north-west direction is preferred for kitchen
South-west, south or west direction is preferred for staircase
North, east or north-east direction is preferred for balcony and an open terrace.

According to Vastu Shastra, the presence of some natural elements can also improve the overall well being of your house. There are five main elements that relate and react to your personality and help in attracting or avoiding different situations. They are as follows:
Wood: It promotes progress and is associated with blues and light greens and tall, narrow forms. Using interior plants and flowers can help in increasing this type of energy.

Fire: It favours expansion and is associated with different warm colors such as red, orange and purple. It is also attracted to triangular and angular shapes. Lamps are best to increase the energy of fire in your home.

Metal: It helps in generating concentration and efficiency. It is associated with neutral colors such as white, gold, silver and grey. Use objects of the same color and in round shapes to increase this type of energy.

Water: It is associated with flow, renewal, and connection. It is also associated with blacks and dark blues. Use objects of similar colors in wavy and irregular shapes to increase this type of energy.

Earth: It facilitates settlement and receptivity and is associated with yellows, oranges and soft browns. Use ceramic elements to increase this type of energy.
