India is filled with some amazing trekking and camping spots. Thanks to my dad’s job, my family travelled a lot as a kid, and I’ve been an adventure lover since then. In the last few years, the thing that I've done the most is treks and camping. And out of all the places, I have a few favourites.

Best trekking places in India - Maharashtra

Although of course the Himalayas are truly full of the best trekking places in India, we all tend to forget the treks in the Sahyadris. I don’t much enjoy cold weather or snowy treks, so my home town of Mumabai actually suits me just fine. But I love going for winter treks around Mumbai because I can handle that much cold. I love waking up while it’s still dark and heading to the misty forts and hills around the area.

Of course, if you want to really enjoy these places, the monsoon is the best time to go. It gets so green, with mist and clouds and waterfalls everywhere. And I really like plants, so I get very excited to see all the different types of leaves and plants and flowers.

My favourite easy trek is Korigad fort, because it’s so simple and short, ...
... but the views are just stunning. Apart from that, I like Rajmachi Fort trek because you get to walk through thick forests and see wide landscapes with lots of waterfalls.

Best trekking places in India - Himachal

In the Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh is my favourite. I read somewhere that it’s called the Fruit Bowl of India, and if you go in the right season, you’ll get to see apples and peaches and apricots hanging from the branches. For a city dweller like me, this never fails to take my breath away.

In Himachal, I love the Beaskund trek. It’s simply wonderful because you trek along a river, through a valley, and up to a lake, so you get to see all these different things. It’s also quite easy so beginners can do it. Apart from this, I love trekking in the Parvati Valley. I usually head straight to the more offbeat places like Tosh or Grahan, because I’ve been to Kasol and Kheerganga twice already. The Parvati river is gorgeous, and the greenery is unmatched - it’s truly one of the best trekking places in India.

Camping in India

As far as adventures go, camping in India is another adventure that brings me immense joy. There are so many camping options in India - from camping in the Himalayas to camping in the deserts of Rajasthan, camping near lakes, in national parks and even on beaches.
A few camping places in India that I have been to and have had a great experience are as follows:

Himalayas

The Himalayas have a beauty that people from all over the globe are in awe of. Tourists come here to experience some tranquillity, peace or to learn and practice yoga. The Himalayan region also offers some of the best camping sites in India with unmatched views.

You can club camping with other activities such as hiking, trekking, river rafting and many more. Set your tents in lush green meadows, on banks of serene lakes and sleep under a blanket of stars. Some of the most preferred camping spots are in Lahaul, Solang Valley, Chandratal Lake and Sangla.

Maharashtra

For people residing in Mumbai or Pune, these camping sites serve as a great weekend getaway. They’re not as spectacular as the Himalayas, but we can’t always go to the mountains. Instead, in a short two day trip, we get to leave the city for some time and camp amidst nature atop ancient forts, on beaches, and lakes. Maharashtra is a scenic beauty, especially in the monsoon, when the mountains are covered with a blanket of greenery and the sights of waterfalls and streams makes for a refreshing trip.

If you enjoy camping make sure to visit the above-mentioned places for camping in India
